Sunday, June 26th open thread: ‘Istanbul, Not Constantinople’

June 26, 2016

Here is the open thread for Sunday, June 26th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week we discussed 8 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

Now on to the musical selection of the week and to quote Monty Python, “and now for something completely different.” Here is They Might Be Giants performing “Istanbul, Not Constantinople” live.

Thanks, SDL! Sorry I missed “Sunday” , was otherwise trying to take care of business here for being better prepared. Was a long weekend, but I have it under my belt, so all is well. Hope you are feeling alright!

It is funny how people can’t think logically anymore.

I use to like that song in it’s hay-day:

Some others … smooth and bright!

One more ‘Happy’! get happy (the truth)!

No, haha, I just listen until I clicked it off then went looking for one of the originals! and found some of the others – turned out well! The ‘Happy’ tune has been out for a while but this is the first time I heard it and it reminded me that there’s a Truth to be Happy about! And sometimes we need reminding to allow a Heaven Joy keep us dancing!

I knew this was a cover song but I had never heard the original before!

Have not heard those songs since my “youth”!!! Loved them then. Maybe someone will put new words to “Istanbul”, would be a shame to waste a perfectly catchy tune.
As for “Happy”, I like that one as well….when I WAS listening to Mark Levin (tuned him out when he started attacking Trump, viciously), he would play it to give himself a pickup…I will not hold Levin against Pharrell…not his fault that Levin is making as ass of himself!

I don’t listen to any of them any more because I think they are all promoting a personal agenda. I did listen to a Boston radio host, Howie Carr, now and again because he puts a little humor into it whereas all the others just get me riled up. I don’t need any help getting riled up so I eventually came to the conclusion that I wasn’t going to listen to people who are trying to put me in a bad mood.

That was good, thanks for sharing. I have this funny feeling the US isn’t there yet. I think we are still a few years behind where Europe is right now and it won’t be until anther election cycle we see the effects of what happened with Brexit happen here, but I could be wrong…
