Did Donald Trump try to back out of naming Mike Pence as his running mate after offering him the job?
I awoke to the news today that Donald Trump had made the decision to postpone his official running mate announcement due to the terrorist attack in France last night. I found this to be odd and I have to admit that my first reaction was that he still had not made up his mind and was using this attack as a convenient excuse to buy himself more time to make a decision. But if this is true than why not just come out and admit he had not finalized his decision?
With Mike Pence being a finalist as a possible running mate there was a deadline to be meet because Indiana law does not allow a person to run for two offices at the same time. Mike Pence had until today to decide to pull out of the governor’s race if he was going to run for Vice-President. It turns out my theory was wrong because Mike Pence was offered the nomination and he accepted it, therefor he had to inform Indiana officials he was not running for re-election as Governor.
And this is where the story gets interesting in my opinion. It now appears as if Donald Trump did not delay his official announcement because he had not made a final decision but rather because he was trying to back out of the offer he made to Mike Pence.
According to this story, late last night Donald Trump was asking his aides if there was any way he could get out of naming Mike Pence as his running mate, here is more:
“Around midnight last night … Donald Trump was on the phone with senior advisors trying to get out of this,” she said.
“This is after he offered the job to Mike Pence, and they flew him to New York, and they had him sitting in a hotel room in Manhattan thinking he is going to be the vice presidential pick and he just basically dumped his own plans for reelection in Indiana as governor,” Bash added.
“And so what this tells us is that this was so out of Donald Trump’s comfort zone. He does not operate like this.”
He operates with the gut, and by all accounts if you were following the gut, he would have gone with Chris Christie,” Bash said. “Everybody around him in the campaign apparatus had been making these moves to make it so Mike Pence would be his running mate.
“Flying him to New York. Making it and leaking it to the press that he was going to be making the call. Telling people in and around the Cleveland convention, especially where conservatives are gathered, ‘don’t worry, wink, wink, nod, nod, it is Mike Pence.’”
First of all, if Chris Christie was what his gut was telling him was right his gut was wrong. Chris Christie would have been a horrible choice, but let that go…
This story comes from CNN, a network which recently cut a live feed when a reporter was just about to get critical of Hillary Clinton, so take it for what you think it is worth. Personally I think it explains why Donald Trump delayed his official announcement. Donald Trump is not a conservative and he has faced opposition, rightfully so in my opinion, from conservatives so he had to make a VP choice which would endear himself to the #NeverTrump wing of the party and that is what he did.
There is no way Donald Trump could have dumped Mike Pence at this point without totally screwing him over and the repercussions of doing so prevented him from making the change, so earlier today the billionaire businessman made the announcement via Twitter that Mike Pence would be his running mate.
Donald Trump is now stuck with a running mate he apparently does not want or have faith in and it is going to be interesting to see how this plays out.

The other candidates mentioned had way too much baggage. Is this any worse than Romney/Ryan, McCaine/Palin, Dole/Kemp or Ford/Dole. Better he pick his own then let the party dictate.
Remember the media is there to create the news not report it.

I agree, Gingrich may be very well spoken and intelligent but it would have prevented Trump for fully going after Hillary on some issues.

If that is what is what was behind it there is going to by some animosity there that is going to be hard for the two to get passed.

I’m so disappointed with this choice. I’m a conservative but what’s at stake goes beyond conservative or liberal. The reason I became a Trump supporter was because I heard in statements he made a concern about distruction of sovereignty through open borders. Then I was encouraged by the way he handled the press and the way he spoke clearly about what Hillary Clinton is. I wanted him to pick Jeff Sessions, a person who shares that view. Of course his advisers probably told him there’s no political capital with Jeff sessions. I say so what. The American people care nothing for political capital. And so far he hasn’t needed that political capital. This pick just makes no sense. It is exactly who we don’t need; someone who is for the very things we want to stop.
If what you say is true, and it makes, then I feel sure that the powers of Mordor are at work. It makes me feel ill and makes me think back to Kennedy Johnson and how that turned out.

As has been mentioned on this site the Go Along to Get Along Party is Democrat Lite. They have no legislative agenda. They have never been able offer constructive opposition. They let themselves be out smarted by the Dem. on every issue They do not listen to their constituents. They claim to be conservative, but they are not.
Session may be a good choice, but again has anyone really vetted him. . Trump could win the South without a southern on the ticket. Pence maybe Trump’s puppet that can sell his proposals to governors and Congress. Who knows what Pence signed in order to be picked. After a few gaffes he could be pushed out of office or sidelined.

I didn’t hear either one Bunkerville but it sounds like he rebounded today. I don’t know much about him so it will be interesting to see what he brings to the table.
