Sunday, August 14th open thread: ‘Would it Matter’

August 14, 2016

open-threadHere is the open thread for Sunday, August 14th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week we discussed 7 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

A week ago Thursday I went to see Skillet play at the annual Christian music festival in Gilford, New Hampshire called Soulfest. I wanted to post a video from the show during last week’s open thread but there was not much posted from the show at that time. I have posted a couple of Skillet songs in the past but this one is a little different; Skillet is a pretty heavy band but about midway through their set the band left the stage and John Cooper stood alone with an acoustic guitar. Something was different here and we were about to learn what it was.

About an hour before Skillet took the stage the band held a meet and greet with their fans and a young man named Brian who is a bone cancer survivor requested a song called “Would it Matter?” This is an old Skillet song and it had never been performed live before: John Cooper introduced the song by telling us Brian’s story and about how he was going to do something he has never done before in playing a song he hadn’t rehearsed. He went on to say he had about 35 minutes to relearn the lyrics and the music but if Brian could fight his way through bone cancer this was nothing compared to what Brian went through. He then joked “this is awesome” before going into the song.

As he played the song and I listened to the lyrics (I hadn’t heard the song before) it really touched me because I couldn’t help but think about what was probably going through Brian’s mind as he fought this  disease and how the lyrics must have hit a personal note with him when he was not sure if he was going to live or die.

Apparently there is a uniform to wear when attempting to take over the world!

That’s a nice story Steve, thanks for sharing. Neat of John to do that for Brian. I think people would be surprised how much their death does affect others. Recently I discover a number of people I knew – some where good friends at the time – had passed away and even though I’d not seen or talked w/ them for years, I still felt badly about it and missed them. It’s strange, like ‘how can that be?’ One of them I was able to connect with and share a little on the phone & email w/ before he passed away – he had blood cancer. No ‘good byes’ just ‘take care’ & see you later.

Yeah, it was a pretty cool moment in the show!
Wow can that little girl sing, it is amazing how much talent some people have. It is sad learning that somebody you knew at some point in your life has died even though you hadn’t seen them in years, I have had this happen to me as well and it makes you think back about those times.

I think that sadness is interesting though. For Scripture tell us: But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. 1 Thes 4:13-14. When we realize the truth of the body we live in and the plane of existence we live in, we see death differently. But we still miss those who’ve died – hoping to see them again without the curse.
Yes, that little gal can sing, there were a couple of them, but this song stood out because we each know deep inside there’s something more for us. And one day the Creator will lift us up (a purposeful transformation), by His power & because of Who He IS, making us who He intended us to be before the world began. 🙂

When my wife’s Mom died Lauri was of course heart-broken but she was (and still is) consoled in the fact that Nancy is now with the Lord.

The two links are to an article and a video on Hillary’s health problems. The writer and videographer claim Hillary has Parkinson’s disease. Their claim is based on the recent pictures and videos of Hillary’s odd behavoir. They claim she is exhibiting markers for the disease. There is no medical test for PD only an assessment of problems the individual has.

Obama hopes she is dead or severely incapacitated before Inauguration Day. According to WND editorial the Constitution has no provision covering a death or incapacitatedness of a President-elect..

I have heard about the possibility she has Parkinson’s disease, that is a possibility. I don’t know what is wrong with her but I do know there is something wrong.

I just looked it up and the 20th amendment covers the death of a President-elect.

Thanks for that infirmation. The info was from a conservative website, so much for their fact checking. I think the more plausable scenario is she becomes incapacitated. Then what? Not that this has not happened before. I guess if she is elected we have to hope she dies soon thereafter.

I think if she became incapacitated the VP-elect would still take over I think he would be a little more acceptable than Hillary…
