Sunday, August 21st open thread: ‘Cut the Cord’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, August 21st. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we discussed 10 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. The cord is cut when we first come into this world and we cry. This cord is of a different sort, but it seems to end in crying as well.

One comment about the ‘meaning’ of this song: “‘Cut The Cord’ is a wake up call reminding us all that we can control our own destiny by finding the courage and tenacity to destroy whatever it is that’s holding us back. The process may not be pretty or perfect or even easy, but absolutely necessary. The song is brutally honest and unapologetic, which is what Shinedown has always been.”
Cutting the cord of hopelessness and apathy or As said by Brent Smith:
“…and in your truest moment of weakness…When everyone and everything has betrayed you and evil and hatred has wrapped itself around your mind, body and soul…This is the song that you play…This is the statement to the world that you will not give up, you will not give in, and you refuse to fail!!! Now is your time…to “CUT THE CORD”.
Sometimes it’s difficult to know which cord to cut – like those bombs in the movies that the right colored wire has to be cut to stop it, cutting the wrong one sets it off!
There are all sorts of different cords: music cords, guitar and piano cords; cords of wood; cords to bind or fasten. Rahab used a cord to let down the spies through the window to escape; Woe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope. Isaiah 5:18
To me this song relates to cords of the wicked are the snares with which they catch the unwary.
And isn’t that what the main problem is in this world – a system run amuck by people who put the blade to the wrist of those they rule over (by infecting their minds and souls).
We’re raised to believe lies as soon as we pop out.

An interesting point about cutting the cord at birth!
I thought the song was about drug addiction because of the line about one more hit and one more score but I found the same explanation as you did by the singer about this being about cutting the cord of anything that is holding you back.
I found it to be a very interesting explanation with the wickedness in the world today and fighting through it. I wonder if he has found the only real path through it though, I don’t know. I love your Psalm 129:4 quote, it fits perfectly.

Thanks Steve, I thought you’d be refreshed with some fitting words. I thought it was about drug addiction too and that’s probably a part of it. When down and out, drugs and alcohol are ‘temp. fixes’ for the time but they eventually magnify the problem in time and bring in more problems! (I read all about it in a book … 🙂
The Matrix movie comes to mind too – that womb he was in with the life tubes that disconnected and he was flushed down the drain! Yes, having a Peace that’s not dependent on the system necessary!

You are welcome, those words were perfect! It seems to me there are so many people out there who are lacking something and are looking for answers. They think they find these answers with drugs but it is artificial. I am a first-hand account that you can find peace that is not dependent on the system, the one true path to peace! Some people find this path but most do not.
