Donald Trump defeats Hillary Clinton

November 9, 2016

donald-trump    Regular readers of America’s Watchtower know how I feel about Donald Trump and how this election cycle has really had me down. Last night I was just going to surf the internet and keep up to date on the results of the election on the computer however it was not long before I had to go upstairs and watch the news coverage. Election day has always been an exciting day for me and it was not the same without watching the coverage live and I soon got sucked into the drama.

It was not long before I could sense the momentum Donald Trump seemed to be gaining even though all of the so-called pundits on Fox News were trying to claim nothing special was happening which would stop Hillary Clinton from becoming the President-elect.

I remember watching the coverage in 2012 and texting some friends about the results as well as posting thoughts in the open thread that year. My friends were cautiously optimistic about Mitt Romney when the results started to come in, however I was deeply troubled by Florida. Mitt Romney needed Florida and yet it was too close to call for several hours, this had me realizing it could be a good night for Barack Obama.

There was no Florida drama this year as the state was called fairly early and shortly after the polls closed in the panhandle. You could begin to sense something. Then North Carolina and Pennsylvania were called not long after but the big news came shortly thereafter when Ohio went to Donald Trump. I thought these states would be in doubt much longer and I began to believe Donald Trump had a real shot at winning.

I believe the next big state to be called was Michigan and when it went to Donald Trump I knew he was going to pull it off. The “blue wall”of Hillary Clinton had been penetrated and now she was going to have to turn a red state blue.

I think where all the pundits got it wrong was in underestimating just how much people were upset with the establishment and I have to admit while I knew people were upset I also underestimated it as well. In this environment I think the Democrats probably nominated the worst person they could have with Hillary Clinton because she represents exactly what people are fed up with. I liken this to the Republicans nominating Mitt Romney in 2012 when he was the epitome of what the left was fighting against and he also passed the healthcare bill in Massachusetts which was used as the model for Obamacare, which was what the right was fighting against.

I cannot help but think that if the Democrats had nominated Bernie Sanders this election could have been much closer but in the end Donald Trump secured nearly 300 electoral votes and won in a semi-landslide.

In January the Republicans will have the Presidency and both Houses of the Congress and I think it is going to be interesting to see how the Congress acts toward Donald Trump. Will they get along with him or are the still going to harbor regrets and work to oppose him like some of them did during the election? I am not sure but we know many of the establishment Republicans are at odds with Donald Trump over issues such as illegal immigration so I will not be surprised if they are not cooperative.

Yes Steve, all of us uneducated white male voters pulled it off.
It’s generally agreed the Fox coverage was the worst. The obnoxious jerk Sheep Dog Smith explained ad nansuseum why PA couldn’t be called while it was obvious it was going to Trump. Just for shits and giggles I watched network news tonight and they didn’t disappoint as they focused on Trump’s taxes and pending lawsuits while totally ignoring national security public enemy number one.
Here in NJ it was business as usual: Clinton by 12%, ho hum.

I gave up watching the news on any of the networks a couple of years ago, this was the first time I watch network news since then and now I know why I gave it up. Fox was bad but I kept it there all night because I did find it entertaining to watch them try to claim Trump was not going to win when it was obvious he was.

I was not able to watch anything live, probably best i did not. I remember last election, in 2012, how we had an open blog here and it looked like Romney was going to make it and all of a sudden there was the massive dumps of votes that started to roll in out on the East coast….I think it hit us all very HARD. The difference between libs and conservatives is WE did not go out and tear the town apart OR burn anything…we had as much anger and disappointment as the libs have now….what makes us different? Hmmmm!

Ok, sorry I forgot…the little amount of time we were at the GOP headquarters around 8:30 they had NBC on, I think….it was, of course left leaning and I really did not pay any attention to it, came home and turned on the computer and went to the radio stations I trusted…..that way I did not have to look at any of the gloating faces that we have all been used to seeing.

I remember that day and the open thread well Lou! This had a different feeling to me all night for some reason. I could feel the momentum for Trump building and yet in the back of my mind I was thinking about 2012. But the victory was so big there was no way to steal it. It was pretty remarkable to watch it play out.

Aren’t the people that are butt hurt trying to change the rules still having to do with the Electoral votes? Thought I read that somewhere. I am on information overload…but thought THEY thought they still had a change to get Clinton in….also they want to Impeach Trump,,,ummm, exactly for WHAT?

Yes they are. The National Popular vote movement is trying to elect people into state legislations who support tying the electors into the popular vote. Once they have enough states passing this legislation the Electoral College will be neutered.

As one female snowflake cried “I planned to wake up to the first woman president, but instead we get this guy, who is white and a nationalist!”. Can’t argue that.

It is fun to watch these snowflakes implode. They were raised getting participation trophies and have been taught that everyone is a winner so this must be a new feeling for them. They stepped out into the real world for the first time and they are not handling it well.

Like you Steve, I planned not to watch. I was traveling so it was easy to avoid. But my wife, as apolitical as they come just keep texting me, state by state. I nearly crapped when she sent “Trump Wins”.
But the left will make sure there is no time to celebrate. The 2018 election has already started, and I see us loosing the Senate. Although in disarray, the left has plenty of Hollywood and leftist money left,

From what I heard today the Democrats have to contend 20+ seats and many of them are in states where Trump won, while the Republicans only have to defend 10. We will have to watch how this plays out but you can bet the Democrats are already in election mode.
