The House of Representatives moves to repeal Obamacare

January 3, 2017

In one of its first actions after reelecting Paul Ryan as Speaker of the House the House of Representatives began to set in motion the repeal of Obamacare. Here is more:

Republican U.S. Senator Mike Enzi introduced on Tuesday a resolution allowing for the repeal of President Barack Obama’s signature health insurance program, which provides coverage to millions of Americans, Enzi’s office said in a statement.

The move by the Senate’s budget committee chairman on the first day of the new Congress set in motion the Republican majority’s promise to repeal the 2010 Affordable Care Act, known as Obamacare, as its first major legislative item.

Republicans have said the repeal process could take months and that developing replacement health insurance plans could take years.

Of course the House has voted to repeal Obamacare dozens of times in the past but that was only symbolic, however this time they may actually be able to do it through budget reconciliation because they will not need a single Democratic vote and Donald Trump is supposedly in favor of a repeal.

The Republicans are using a budget resolution to provide for Obamacare’s repeal, allowing them to act without any Democratic votes. Budget resolutions require a simple majority to pass in the Senate, instead of the 60 votes normally required to clear procedural hurdles. There are 52 Republicans in the 100-seat chamber.

The budget resolution contains so-called reconciliation instructions, directing committees to dismantle Obamacare as part of reconciling taxes and spending with the budget blueprint – and to report back to the budget committee by Jan. 27.

Before the Democrats cry foul over this maneuver they should remember that this same process was used to pass Obamacare without a single Republican vote in the first place, possibly setting the stage for this repeal attempt.

Having worked in Healthcare I can only say they best have someone who knows what the heck they are doing as they go tearing this apart. This whole bill along with the thousands of pages of “rules” that were written in carrying it out, was created with a deadly kill switch. Medicare reimbursements as well as services provided have been dramatically changed. Our entire healthcare system was overhauled based on this bill. It had little to do with coverage for a few million more lives. Good luck Seniors.

It would wise to fix the problems that lead to ACA before you vote to undo the act.

Most Americans understand how car insurance works, but they fail to understand “health” insurance. I have yet to find an auto insurance plan that pays for routine maintenance or dictates that you shall only use the dealer for all repairs. Bad drivers pay more for their insurance and payments are also affected by age, sex and other factors. Yet health insurance has morphed into a unworkable mess. The challenge is to educate the public (most are idiots and can never be educated) with information about health care and health insurance.

The Congress should not write anymore laws that are hundreds or thousands of pages in length. The MSM fake news is also running wild with scare stories about ACA repeal.

It is the only product in which my insurance pays the hospitals a different amount than yours. and different than somebody else if we have different companies, as an example. I want the ACA to go…. just saying.

I think that you and CJ are right. At this point the law is so established that it cannot just be thrown out, it should be taken apart and replaced bits at a time.

Isn’t it just so cute that the DEMS led by facelift Pelosi now want bi-partisanship to rule the day. Phony, arrogant hypocrites…
