Senate Democrats to filibuster Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee

January 30, 2017

Donald Trump is scheduled to announce his nominee to the Supreme Court tomorrow night and according to this story Senate Democrats are going to try to filibuster his pick no matter who it is. Here is more:

Senate Democrats are going to try to bring down President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick no matter who the president chooses to fill the current vacancy.

With Trump prepared to announce his nominee on Tuesday evening, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) said in an interview on Monday morning that he will filibuster any pick that is not Merrick Garland and that the vast majority of his caucus will oppose Trump’s nomination. That means Trump’s nominee will need 60 votes to be confirmed by the Senate.

“This is a stolen seat. This is the first time a Senate majority has stolen a seat,” Merkley said in an interview. “We will use every lever in our power to stop this.”

This is obviously payback by the Democrats for the Republicans refusing to even give Barack Obama’s choice to replace Antonin Scalia a hearing and to be perfectly honest I do not blame them one bit because if it were me I would likely do the same thing.

There is a major showdown coming here and there is likely to be a stalemate which can only be avoided if the Republicans follow Harry Reid’s lead and end the filibuster of Supreme Court nominees. The only question is, will Mitch McConnell show the same type of courage as did Harry Reid? All indications point to the Majority leader being unwilling to change Senate rules so this could be very interesting to see how it plays out.

An interesting side note is that the man who is favored to get the nomination, Thomas Hardiman, was voted onto the appeals court by a 95-0 margin.Of course all bets are off now…

Washington (CNN)The acting Attorney General Sally Yates has told Justice Department lawyers not to make legal arguments defending President Donald Trump’s executive order on immigration and refugees, according to sources familiar with the order

They won’t let Sessions be approved either. Yates is a leftover from Obama since Sessions has not been approved.

I think we now know why they are holding up Sessions! I wonder how long they can delay his confirmation.

And the opposition party, the media, will do their part to keep public opinion on the DEMS side which should be a rather easy task given the intellectual compass of the country. Look how well they distorted Trump’s temporary seven country Muslim ban. With a good number of House and Senate Republicans along with Wall Street taking the bait the left is getting two for the price of one.

And too many Republicans seem to care about how the MSM portrays them. When will they ever learn?

This was to be expected that they will do whatever they can to stop the nominations….they know it will get done, but they want to cause as much crap as they can. I am of the opinion that Schumer will be right up there on par with Reid and I hate to say that, but he is going to be trouble…he has alot of catching up since Reid just would not leave. He wants to make his mark and an “ass” will be that mark. I am not sure which one I hate to see more, but Schumer is just getting started.

Yes, they will delay these nominations as long as possible just to cause unrest when they know in the end they cannot stop them. They want to incite violence to prove they were right because they figure they can blame Trump. The proverbial self-fulfilling prophesy.
I am glad you are back Lou, I figured you were busy but I was still getting concerned!

Between family and the election maybe now you will have a little time to relax!

No rest for the wicked, Steve, apparently I am pretty wicked, haha! There seems to be more and more going on with friends lately, than the family. Still, they are important to me, as well, so having to deal with alot of “issues”, most medical and not good.
I am ecstatic about the election and wake up each morning to see what new things Trump is going to put right. That is such a switch! But, then, reality kicks in and have other things to deal with….life goes on and we deal with things the best we can.
