House Oversight Committee sends a letter to the Ethics Office about Kellyanne Conway’s possible ethics violation after she endorsed Ivanka Trump’s clothing line

February 9, 2017

There are many people who have concerns about the potential conflicts of interest that might arise due to Donald Trump’s business ventures. Of course the left did not care about Hillary Clinton’s conflicts of interests while she was running for President so this is more than a little hypocritical but still the problem does exist so we must put aside the hypocrisy to delve into this post. After all we would also be hypocritical if we ignored this story after we attacked Hillary Clinton’s conflicts of interest while she Secretary of State and the potential that it would continue if she won the Presidency.

Kellyanne Conway appeared on Fox News earlier today and while apparently in her official capacity as councilor to Donald Trump she used the opportunity to endorse Ivanka Trump’s clothing line, offering what she called  “a free commercial.”

  Here is more:

Kellyanne Conway used her platform Thursday to urge Americans to “go buy Ivanka’s stuff,” prompting a wave of backlash for potentially violating ethics rules governing the executive branch.

Standing in the White House press briefing room, Conway, a counselor to the president, encouraged Americans to purchase Ivanka Trump’s products, one day after President Donald Trump himself lashed out at the luxury retailer Nordstrom for dropping his daughter’s clothing line.

“It’s a wonderful line. I own some of it,” Conway told “Fox & Friends.” “I fully — I’m going to give a free commercial here. Go buy it today, everybody. You can find it online.”

Conway’s remark appears to violate the executive branch’s ban on staff endorsing products or companies. The regulation, from the Office of Government Ethics, also prohibits using public office for private gain of oneself or friends or relatives.

The House Oversight Committee has weighed in on the controversy by sending a letter to the Oversight Office about the possible ethics violation and disciplinary action, here is more:

Both Jason Chaffetz and Elijah Cummings have sent a letter to the Office of Government Ethics and to the White House about Kellyanne Conway’s comments advertising for Ivanka Trump’s clothing line

You can read the full letter by following the link I provided above.

Kellyanne Conway, who became the first woman to ever successfully run a Presidential campaign, should understand that the alt-left and the Republican establishment will be looking for anything they can use to go after the President and she should have been smarter than this.

To be honest I feel as though she acted stupidly (to quote Barack Obama when he weighed in on  the Cambridge police) by actually coming out and admitting she was giving Ivanka Trump a free commercial, to me this is a clear violation of ethics and cannot be defended.

While Donald Trump’s supporters will claim this is “fake news” they should ask themselves what they would be saying if this story was reversed and I think her own words condemn her. I cannot understand what she was thinking in light of the opposition she knew Donald Trump would be facing. But I do not think she was thinking and that is the problem…

Ethics? Since when do ethics become an issue? Not when Barney Frank runs a male prostitution ring out of his basement and endorses NAMBLA, not when The Swimmer leaves a young woman to die in a shallow watery grave in his car, makes a waitress sandwich with his buddy former Connecticut senator Chris Dodd and then plays the women’s rights card throughout his political career, not when Fauxahontas lies then cheats and steals from entitlement programs etc etc. The litany of ethics violations and corruption by the democrats could fill a diary but who gives a flying f__k. Endorsing a Trump clothing line which may result in a few more sales? For that my friends there is no excuse. Build the gallows, now!

This was really an unforced error. The law is pretty clear on the matter and it was her responsibility to know what she can and cannot do when working in her official capacity.

Violation, law or not, it’s the old double standard as usual.

There is no doubt a double standard, as your last comment pointed out, but Trump has to understand this and needs to be careful because everything will be used against him.

Judging from how people tend to vote (especially last November), that double standard is practiced by both sides unfortunately.

That’s my point exactly Terrant, there was no need for this mistake and it should have been avoided.

Agreed. This is the big leagues and this entire administration must keep in mind it’s under a microscope and operate accordingly before putting its foot in its mouth.

Well she should have known better, but lets compare shall we?
Remember when Jay Carney shills his wife’s book in a press conference?
    What, you don’t ?
That’s because nothing was said about it.
