Sunday, February 12th open thread: ‘The Reason’
Here is the open thread for Sunday, February 12th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.
Last week we discussed 6 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!
Here is Hoobastank performing “The Reason” live. I always thought this song was about the singer’s regret over a woman whom he had hurt but when I listened to the song today after deciding to share it dawned on me that this might not be what this song is about at all. Is it possible the song is about God? After all the “you” he is singing to is never really defined so I did a little research and found out that all the band members are Christians.
Most of the comments I read from fans state that the members are Christians but their lyrics have nothing to do with God. Last week I shared a video from a duo who had a subtle Christian message in their songs and now I am beginning to wonder if–at least in this song–Hoobastank is also subtly proclaiming their faith.

Well, they draw the crowd. We can ‘grieve the Holy Spirit’ by not believing God and His Word and that hurts us in turn. When we are drawn to ‘know’ the Truth and receive the LIFE of Truth (the Spirit) we’re motivated to change – we’re made abled to change. It’s like learning something new that frees us from ‘old thinking’ that worked against us, in reality. (Like being bound by the constraint of a certain way of thinking = that’s fallen man-made religion.) That’s one reason those ‘caught in the snare’ of the corrupt mindset are so unknowingly controlled and manipulated to do things for the very people who ‘hate them’, who use them for their own personal gain – their own obedient, mindless pawns.
The ‘change’ is, as Scripture states, ‘a putting on the new man’ “renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:” That ‘renewed’ thinking makes us aware of things the we were ignorant to/of – unlearned (which is the the tactic of our enemy – to keep us in the dark!). Learning and gaining knowledge is one thing, but having the ‘wisdom and charity’ to use it “rightly” is the teaching of the Holy Spirit working in us. In the world today there are many ‘spirits’ but not all are of God the Father, rather enemies of our souls.

I find Lizzy’s hypocrisy to be the worse type, and the fact the Dems did not call her out is even more hypocritical! But Gore is a close second. The end of that video played in nicely to what we were saying below/ Thanks for sharing these.

Great comment and I think you nailed it. People who do not have God look to the state as the highest power and put all their trust in the leaders under the assumption the leaders will always do what is right and what is best for them and as such they are manipulated by TPTB. In a way there is a liberty that comes from being a Christian and Paul talks about it in the NT when he speaks of following the law bringing condemnation and following God who brings salvation. (I am sure I don’t have that 100% right) But while there is liberty there is still responsibility and it comes with adhering to God and His will.

The one that applies to leaders who are corrupt criminals: While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption: for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought in bondage.” 2 Pet 2:19
When I first discovered “who” Jesus was, why he died on the cross as payment for all sin, my human brain couldn’t understand it (I had to ‘come to an understanding); “How could his death ensure me life” and eternal life at that! Those things can only be understood with God’s help (like faith being a “substance” we’re given, that allows us to trust what He says is True/Dependable). These things must be spiritually discerned – and the corrupt want to keep people in the dark by not teaching these truths and discrediting them.

March is usually a time for alot snow too, so keep your shovel dusted off!

Great verses there Zip! I guess what it comes down to is being enslaved by corruption and worldy goods or freeing yourself in Christ. It really is a process and it is easy for people who have never picked up a Bible to look down upon the people who believe in what they think is superstition.

Wondering if you have your generator fired up, Steve? Was not expecting this for you, but looks like you have to deal with it. Here in Illinois we have some pretty stiff winds that are pushing your way, but only had about 2-3 inches of snow a couple days ago. Hope you don’t have any outages, but imagine you are ready for it, stay safe!

So far so good. We are getting pummeled with snow but there are no winds yet, however the winds are supposed to be coming tonight and tomorrow. We got about 12″ of snow Thursday and are going to get more than that by the time this storm leaves!

Kind of late in the year for all of this, but it seems to happen, doesn’t it? Imagine you have a snow blower/thrower fired up, as well? We are now going to be in the 50’s and 60’s, but then it will get down to 20, so go figure. Well, be careful with whatever you are doing.

We get the most snow of the Winter in February in New England so I guess this is normal, I just wish they were a little further apart! 😉 The gear box on my snowblower let go so we are shoveling, I will have to look at repairing it in the Spring. Luckily the snow has been pretty fluffy so far. (Fingers crossed)

No, but then again I was MIA, for awhile, myself. Things come up that take priority over the computer, maybe she is dealing with some issues, right now.
