Obamacare repeal stalls in the Congress
One of the top priorities (so we were told) of the Republican party with a Republican President was to repeal Obamacare. I have been saying for years that Obamacare was never going to be repealed, the last chance to repeal Obamacare died alongside Mitt Romney’s candidacy. And now the repeal effort has been stalled in the Congress.
The Republicans have vowed to repeal Obamacare since it was rammed through the Congress using parliamentary gimmicks and they have actually passed dozens of repeal bills while Barack Obama was President but they cannot pass even one now that they are in power.
This leads me to ask only one simple question: why is it that the Republicans in the House could pass 50 or so Obamacare repeal bills while Barack Obama was President when it had no chance of being signed but are unable to pass a single repeal bill now that there is a Republican in the White House when the bill would be signed?
The answer is obvious to me: Republicans do not want to repeal Obamacare and they never did. This was always a game to them because it was a perfect political tool to be used over and over again during election cycles. But now that they have a chance to repeal the legislation they want nothing to do with it because they are afraid of the fallout. There is a difference between campaigning and governing…
I have been saying for years that the establishment Republicans and the establishment Democrats are all on the same side and when push comes to shove they will protect their own because there are two Americas–the ruling class and the ruled class.
The Republicans have been using the Hegelian Dialectic to create the illusion of opposition in order to win votes and keep themselves in power in the Congress by playing the voters for fools, however now they can no longer do this and they have been exposed for all to see.
Technically there is still a chance Obamacare will be repealed. There is the chance that now that they are in power the Republicans want to take their time to make sure they do this the right way but I would not count on it.

They are really between a rock and a hard place. Embedded in the original bill was an automatic fail to occur after the election. Then the plan was to move on to a single payer system. By then the Insurance companies will have lost millions if not billions, the deductibles and co-pays would be out of sight. The expansion of Medicaid insured that there was no way to dis-entangle thousands more getting freebie insurance. Add all the regs and Medicare reimbursements included and it is a total cluster****.
I don’t know the answer, but having worked in Healthcare administration as most know, there is no simple repeal and replace. Sadly, once the insurance companies, physicians walk away from it because it doesn’t pay to have these patients, we will have single payer.

Single payer was always the plan and we are seeing insurers walk away from it already. Sooner or later the plan will be complete unless something is done. At this point I feel as if they will just have to start fixing the problems one at a time.

I agree with you. I don’t see how the Republicans can vote on legislation dozens of times in the last six years but when they can actually make it law, they are unable to do it. It’s not like they cannot use budget reconciliation to ram the necessary changes through. They’ve had six years to come up with something better. They have no excuse. The longer they wait on this, the less likely they are going to be able to do anything and when they do something it is going to end up being a Pyrrhic victory like the Democrats saw in 2010.

They are addicted to the money. When has a politician given up tax revenue? At least give the taxpayer the option like Trump has done of not paying the penalty. There is also buried in the ACA rules an exemption from having to buy insurance if it too expensive and you are not eligible for a subsidy. And why can’t you object to insurance for religious reasons?
I am convinced Congress should not be allowed to write these complex pieces of legislation. They are full of loopholes, cut outs and exemptions for friends.
Deregulation is the only solution. Stop putting quotas on medical schools admissions. Stop certificates of needs for hospitals. Allow the purchase of foreign pharma and break up large pharma corporations. Allow DO and alternative medicine practioners. Fix medical malpractice take it out of the courts. Cap loss payments and set up state funds. Make the stakeholders, pharma, hospitals, doctors, insurance propose solutions to fix the health system.

What we have is not what Congress approved in though it was a total mess. They did it on Christmas Eve, and turned it over to the agencies to write the law. Recall the thousands of exemptions Obama gave?? The billion dollar website? The GOP had nothing to do with it period. There are no certificates of needs anymore which has caused numerous hospitals to fail. You finish Pharma and there will be no new drugs. We are paying for the research and other countries need to start to pony up for it. Each new drug costs about a Billion to develop and most fail. Pharma is way down the list of companies who make the most profits.

Not having ever worked in the healthcare industry my observations are simplistic but several things we all know: The political class is exempt from this monster, a creation of their socialist friends/operatives whose 100 years of lying in wait was over with the the election of Obama, the final piece to the perfect storm. And how could the insurance industry which propped up the ACA with more than a wink and a nod not forsee in time the death of their industry at the hands of this legislation. Surely the industry felt it could out fox the government once they made their quick buck, As has always been and always will he greed will conquer all. In the end the unforeseen unknown was the sellout by Justice John Roberts. God help our children and grandchildren.

Socialized medicine has never worked anywhere it has been tried. OK so you go to single payer. Where is the magic money coming from? If you are paying X to an insurance company you can bet you will need to pay the government 2X. The feds have proven they incapable of running any large complex system. SS screwed up, Medicare screwed up, Immigration/ non immigration Visas screwed and the list goes on.
