Donald Trump bans CNN, The New York Times, and Politico from press briefing

February 24, 2017

The mainstream media is up in arms because Donald Trump banned CNN, Politico, and The New York Times from a press briefing earlier today. CNN went so far as to claim Donald Trump was “cherry picking” questions. To be honest I am not in favor of banning these organizations, I would rather the administration take them on face to face, however the left is acting as if nothing like this has ever happened before.

But it has, and not all that long ago. I still remember Barack Obama saying people who watched Fox News (he did not name Fox News but everybody knew who he was talking about) the wrong news organization and I remember him not taking questions from Fox News. The mainstream media has been upset at the Trump administration for not taking questions from liberal news outlets at his press conferences but they seem to have forgotten about this. But this is only the beginning…

On the issue of “cherry picking” the New York Times once reported this about Barack Obama:

However, as the New York Times itself reported in 2015, President Barack Obama met privately with liberal reporters and columnists frequently throughout his tenure in office — “more than a dozen” times. And although he occasionally invited conservative columnists, “Liberal-leaning columnists from newspapers tend to dominate at Mr. Obama’s secret sessions.”

Obama’s private briefings for liberal members of the media, which excluded conservatives, were well-documented. A few:

December 2012: Several journalists reported that MSNBC hosts were meeting privately with President Obama to discuss the impending “fiscal cliff” fight.

May 2013: NPR’s Ari Shapiro reported that President Obama was meeting privately with “lefty columnists,” but hastened to add that there was “nothing nefarious” about it.

November 2013: President Obama met again with liberal journalists, as Obamacare struggled with the failure of healthcare.gov and other problems.

March 2015: Politico’s media reporter, Hadas Gold, reported that “a group of journalists and columnists,” all on the left, met privately with President Obama, but the White House refused to say “who else was at the meeting or what was discussed.”

What was this if it was not an attempt to create the narrative–or should I say create propaganda. This is slightly different from what Donald Trump did because in this case the media was in cahoots with the President, but it is not altogether different because he did not meet with conservative news outlets in private.

And then there was this:

Dozens of leading news organizations are protesting to the White House against restrictions that sometimes keep journalists from taking pictures and video of President Obama performing official duties. At the same time, two press groups urged their members to stop using official photos and video handed out by the White House, dismissing them as little more than “government propaganda.”

The news organizations’ letter to White House press secretary Jay Carney detailed a number of recent examples in which photographers weren’t allowed to cover presidential events that were deemed “private” by administration officials — even though the White House indicated their newsworthiness by releasing its own photos of the same events.

“As surely as if they were placing a hand over a journalist’s camera lens, officials in this administration are blocking the public from having an independent view of important functions of the executive branch of government,” the letter states, adding that the restrictions imposed by the Obama White House represent a major break from the practices of past administrations.

The news organizations said Thursday that the White House limits on access raise constitutional concerns about infringement on First Amendment press freedoms and have “a direct and adverse impact on the public’s ability to independently monitor and see what its government is doing.”

During the campaign Donald Trump threatened to sue the press if they wrote anything he disagreed with and while I found that to be frightening the left seems to have forgotten that Barack Obama was actually spying on Fox News reporter James Rosen.

Here is what Fox News had to say about that back in the day:

Fox News responds with a blistering statement that asserts Rosen was “simply doing his job” in his role as “a member of what up until now has always been a free press.”

As I said above, I do not think banning news organizations is the answer. Donald Trump thinks this makes him look tough but I think it makes him look weak and unwilling to confront what he called the “enemy of the people” to their faces. But when I hear the media claiming this is “unprecedented” I have to remind them that this is nothing new.

Perhaps CNN should ask James Rosen what it means to be truly targeted by the government for not toeing the official party line.

I think he wants them be ‘held accountable’ and ‘cognizant’ that they’re being ‘watched’ – which they haven’t been for years! We call it ‘free press’ but it isn’t. It’s total propaganda>/i> and ‘social conditioning’ medium for the Globalist: Deep State (shadow Gov.) and stopping it is A-OK w/ me!
I know that you’re thinking it might seem a bit ‘dictatorial’ but that because
we’re so use to hearing their lies and twisting reality of what’s right and wrong we’re a bit numb. The news media will do all they can to shine a ‘dark side’ (light) on anything or anyone who ‘obstructs’ them. And then we’re back to the “obstructionist” card being played (like racial and all the other words they pervert and change the meaning of). Which does make them ‘the enemy’ – in my book.
I don’t think using the fraud (not his real name) Obama as an example when it comes to gaging the Truth of a matter or in comparison. He was and still is totally a ‘boy’ for the progressives (that’s why they want to use him for the Coup they’ve organized). We now have someone (Trump) that the Establishment or the Rino’s don’t like nor the Globalist! I’d say that means he’s more “for us!” than them, which is a good thing!! If you want a better look into CNN listen to Greg Hunter – he tells it as it is and they’re deep in the cesspool (do we really need to hear what liars and workers for the Agenda have to say?).
I pray the LORD helps him and keeps him safe from the ‘evils’ coming against him … and us!

That’s a good point, he has put them on notice that they aren’t going to get away with what they did in the past and that is probably what is upsetting them the most.

The “thought shaping media” and their aim to “shape talking points” when in the hands of Think Progress propagandist is life defeating. Like Politico – who still refer to not his real name Obama as prez – is that what we want to leave for upcoming generation … a bunch of mind twisting degenerates! Calling them out for who they are, is like Spring Cleaning. They’ll be involved in the Coup instead helping to Make America worth something! They just want to ‘make themselves’ and their egos rise to new heights!

        oops!

Reminds me of the “empty suit” analogy too.

Steve, this is OT, but it does seem to connect to a ‘changing direction’ in our culture: Barnum & Bailey closing down. “After much evaluation and deliberation, my family and I have made the difficult business decision that Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® will hold its final performances in May of this year. Ringling Bros. ticket sales have been declining, but following the transition of the elephants off the road, we saw an even more dramatic drop. This, coupled with high operating costs, made the circus an unsustainable business for the company.”
It just seems to have more ‘significance’ going on that speaks to the ‘age’ we’re living in and ‘changed mindset’.

I think the MSM actually likes what is happening right now to a point because they love being the story. They think they are so important, they have puffed themselves up, and now we have somebody who is not afraid to attack them.

If you remember, Trump was attacking Fox News in much of the same way that he is attacking the left leaning media now. I think this is more than just trying to hold the media accountable. It is more like he and the rest of the Republican administration is trying to coerce the news outlets (that have not submitted to him) to only report state approved news.

I don’t remember him attacking Fox News but I don’t doubt it.

It was during the primaries. He attacked Megan Kelly and Bill O’Reilly. He even called Fox News a haven of Trump haters at one point.

Trump didn’t ban any of these lying fake news organization. PS Spicer did not include them in a meeting in his office after a press conference. Apparently Spicer was punishing them for their recent fake news story. As we have seen they are propaganda organs of the globalist elite.

haha That’s what I was going to look into!
They did fail to report this (Donald’s recent tweet): The media has not reported that the National Debt in my first month went down by $12 billion vs a $200 billion increase in Obama first mo.

CPA’s are bound by GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles). Conversely the press/media adhere to, basically, no standards that we can see.

My wife was a reporter for a bit. Yes, they do have standards that they have to adhere to.

They have standards they are “supposed” to adhere to, I don’t think they always live up to those standards.

Savage has an mission to save the Americans Way of Life! I hope he doesn’t ‘have an accident’ because of his Pro-American views – if he does more the reason to ‘rid them.’
McCarthy was right! The same infestation is going on today.

This story for most, I bet, seems like petty inside D.C. bickering. There is a much more important point which you have made, but I wonder if Trump has once more taken the Media on another distraction course as perceived by the John Q. Public.
