Washington Post contributor apologizes for taking Jeff Sessions out of context and spreading fake news

April 12, 2017

A Washington Post contributor, Daniel Drezner, has been forced to apologize for Tweeting that Jeff Sessions called all illegal immigrants “filth.” Here is his Tweet:

He went on to say the following:

I’m not going to lie, seeing the word “filth” used to seemingly describe illegal immigrants brought me up short. It’s pretty potent language for an attorney general to use to describe fellow human beings.

There is only one problem with this–actually there are two problems with this but I will get to the second problem shortly–Jeff Session was talking about gang bangers and drug dealers and not about all illegal aliens. Once Daniel Drezner realized this he corrected himself and apologized:

The context is clear: Sessions was going to use “filth” to describe MS-13 and drug cartels, not all illegal immigrants crossing the border. One might think, like I do, that the language is hyperbolic, but in context it did not imply what I thought it implied in my tweet.

I guess we should at least give him credit for admitting his mistake and apologizing for it but I wonder how many people saw his apology versus the people who saw his original Tweet…

But did you notice how in his admission he stated that Jeff Sessions was “going to use the word filth” and not that he did use the word “filth?” And that leads me to the second problem with  Daniel Drezner’s attack on Jeff Sessions–he never used the word “filth” in the first place:

while “filth” was in Sessions’ prepared remarks, the attorney general didn’t actually utter the word in his speech. He only said, “It is here, on this sliver of land, on this border, where we first take our stand.”

“So, full stop, I was wrong, and I apologize to the attorney general for making this mistake,” Drezner wrote. “I wish I had caught the error in time to delete the tweet before it went viral. Alas, I did not. Deleting it now seems like I’d be trying to erase my mistake. I did respond with a follow-up tweet, but that is insufficient given all the attention this received.”

Again, I give him credit for admitting his mistake and for apologizing for it, but even he had to admit, as I alluded to above, this was “insufficient” due to the number of people who saw the original Tweet.

Again we have another example of a leftist (I am taking the liberty to assume he is a leftist) so blinded by hatred of the Trump administration that he was not thinking clearly and it came back to bite him in a big way. He saw what he wanted to see and he did not bother to actually listen to what Jeff Session was saying and they wonder why nobody takes the media seriously any more.

He has had a good week, that’s for sure. If the Republicans aren’t going to build the wall Sessions could be the next best thing.

Low-life. Def: a person of low moral character and isn’t this what’s being pushed on the masses to be like? Lowlifes are easier to control and persuade by debauchery!
Remember when you were concerned some time ago with the comment Trump made before being elected, about coming down on certain reporting Journalist: “I hate some of these people, but I would never kill them.”]. If Hilly would’ve gotten in she wouldn’t have thought twice of destroying
Alt Media! I think Trump meant Fake News (LIES) all along that he was going after – regardless who was promoting it.
Having these vipers apologize isn’t enough … it’s time to starting fining them ($$$ & taking away or suspending their license) – pulling them out the pit of darkness of their depravity!
Some would think – Oh no, that’s going to bring in ‘Police State’! But even that has been used to manipulate us – the populous – to ‘think a certain way.’ What’s already here is here, and what is to come will come. Meanwhile, kicking the butts of those who need kicking is wise!

I do remember that Zip, and I still don’t like the idea of punishing the media. But yes, they are out of control at this point and need to be called out on it. You are also right in saying the whole “police state” hysteria is also a manipulation, it seems as if everything is a manipulation of some type. It is hard to get to the truth and that is the way Washington likes it. I honestly do not know what the answer is.

What to do about lying and corruption … hmmm 🤔
What you don’t like about punishing or ‘holding the media accountable’ is the 1st amendment! But the very ones they work for (that mindset) are determined to control and dominate everyone’s thinking to be as they choose – them first! Ruling over the free speech propaganda! only theirs is allowed!Bow down & worship their golden image or else! Daniel 3:5

The fellow wrote his article based largely on the text of the speech distributed to the press beforehand, and got burned when Sessions deviated from the prepared remarks. Not really an eyebrow-raiser, not even the apology.

But to characterize it as fake news? It’s certainly not on a par with the set of delusional fanrltasies that created “Pizzagate” or the hundreds of other “news” stories whose only connection to reality was to spell Obama’s name right.

Take good care and may God bless us all!

Yes, he got burned by using the pre-released text when it comes to the fact Sessions didn’t use the word “filth” however it does not explain the mistake he made in who the comment was directed at. He either knew Sessions was only talking about drug dealers and gang-bangers when he read the content of the speech and he purposely misrepresented it or he has bad reading level comprehension.
