Sunday, April 16th open thread: ‘Were You There When They Crucified My Lord’

April 16, 2017

open-threadHere is the open thread for Sunday, April 16th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week  we discussed 8 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. I understand that all of you are busy and cannot always find the time to check the blog for updates so why not subscribe to America’s Watchtower and receive email updates whenever I write a new post? That is the easiest way to follow the blog to ensure you never miss another post.

In addition to subscribing you can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. But you will get more than that for I often post links to articles I probably will not be writing about so it is a great way to keep up with what is happening.

The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive. This widget updates my tweets in real time and allows you to respond to or retweet my tweets right from the blog. It also allows you to tweet me right from America’s Watchtower. How cool is that! If you do not have a Twitter account what better reason do you need to sign up for one!

Happy Easter everybody, here is Johnny Cash performing “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?”

“He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.” (Luke 24:6-7 KJV)

Where is Ivanka and her concern for dead children. No where to be seen or heard.
    Shameful!

https://polldaddy.com/js/rating/rating.jsGreat selection Steve! I really like the way they did that rendition!
    Here’s a different one:
    https://youtu.be/Yg-6AwmRr4c
Just like the ‘corrupt leaders’ of today, they had their plans then too: the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate, Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver<said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again. Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first. … So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch. … And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it. His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow: [and this is a fun note!] And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.”
And to the women who came, the angels says: “Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified. He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.” Now if THAT’s not giving respect to women and kindness I don’t know what is!! Women libers should be all over this ‘Thanking God’ for showing this. Noting that it was the unbelieving men who were shamed, but God’s angel spoke to them matter-of-factly – the truth! Matt 28:1
This shows the real ‘spirit’ behind the women’s (worm) lib movement and that it isn’t of God! In John 20:17 Jesus speaks directly to Mary, including her and not making her feel ‘lesser than her brethren’ and even ‘makes her a messenger.’ “Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.” – Image that, the Risen Lord talking w/ Mary! Even the religion rabid-left uphold – Islam – they beat their women, they hold them down in lowliness.
Oh how we’ve been deceived by the real deceiver and blinded from the Truth of the Beauty and Grace of the Risen Lord and what he accomplished for us unto Salvation for all who will believe – Him! The Way, the Truth and the LIFE.

Great comment! I find it interesting to see the role many women played in the Bible, both in the OT and the NT, it is not quite the way it is portrayed today. That is not to say women were always treated fairly but when you look at who Jesus chose to associate with–sinners, women, children, and such it is a powerful reminder that we are all equal in God’s eyes. It is not the healthy who seek a doctor but the sick, I am paraphrasing but I love that vision of Jesus coming into the world to help those who need it most to find redemption.

    Is Islam a Cult?

Sure does look like a cult, doesn’t it?! I have started reading the Koran out of curiosity, I have not gotten very far yet and I am only reading it here and there, but I feel as if I need to read it so that I can see for myself what is actually in there.

I started to read the book of Mormon’s and lost interest, but knowing some of what these cults teach is probably good to know and see how it differs from God’s Word. Maybe one day God uses you to help someone else who’s ensnared in “doctrine of devils!”
(Thanks for clearing off that comment. I wanted to make ‘bold’ deceiver and messed up! Those who are deceived are always flipping the ‘lie and truth’ around because they’re deceived by the ‘great deceiver.’)

I will probably read the book of Mormon at some point as well. As a person who has struggled with faith for most of my life it is important to me to read as much as I can on theology–even if I do not agree with some of what I am reading.
Part of my journey before finally coming to Jesus was reading the works of Plato and Aristotle, as well as Augustine and Aquinas after I accepted Jesus. I enjoy reading the works of the ancients and every once in awhile people like Cicero and Seneca actually back up–unwittingly–Biblical accounts and that just reaffirms my Faith.
When I reflect upon all of this it simply blows my mind because I did not see what was happening to me!

Yes, we’re taught to think of the Bible as set-apart from the real world! But even the OT states in places that if someone wants to find out more about a certain age or history to read the annals written about it
Brings to mind, “renewing” your mind. “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Rom 12:2
I like the this definition of ‘faith’ because there’s all sort of faiths in something or someone (even in oneself), “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” Heb 11:1 It can bring ‘soundness’ [Acts 3:16] to one’s souls, health to their bones even, but it all depends on whom we’re trusting in, or putting our in faith.
“And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain. … But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” 1 Cor 15:17, 20.
