Senator Ed Markey spreads fake news on CNN

 I have been accused by the left on a couple of occasions for using links to websites both here and on Facebook from less than credible sources. I am just a small time microblogger and I understand that I do not really influence anybody, I am just sharing my opinion. I always try to use legitimate stories but I have made a couple of mistakes.

  Ed Markey, on the other hand, is a United States Senator from Massachusetts who really does not influence anybody (sorry, could not help making that dig!) and as such he has a responsibility to make sure his sources are legitimate. He has a full staff and there is no excuse for him in not doing his homework. 

  However this did not stop Ed Markey from appearing on CNN to spread fake news about Donald Trump and the Russian investigation. Here is what he said:

“There are very strong allegations that the Russians had relationships with people inside of the Trump campaign,” Markey said during an interview on CNN.

“In fact, subpoenas have now been issued in Northern Virginia with regard to General [Michael Flynn] and General Flynn’s associates,” Markey continued. “A grand jury has been impanelled up in New York.”

  However:

There have been subpoenas issued in Virginia, but no reputable outlet has reported anything about an impaneled grand jury. When a Guardian reporter requested a source, Markey’s office said he read about it on two blogs.

  Those two blogs were Louise Mensch’s blog and Palmer Report, here is more about them:

Neither the Palmer Report nor Louise Mensch are considered credible sources. The Palmer Report is a left-wing blog known for making fantastic and unproven claims, while Mensch is a former British MP known for accusing many people of being secret Russian spies.

  Ed Markey’s office admitted the mistake and issued an apology for the “confusion” but as of yet CNN has not issued a retraction and Ed Markey has not appeared on CNN to set the record straight. This means he made the false claim on national television and then issued a press release nobody will see, so most viewers who watched him on CNN will only remember the original story and not be aware he was spreading fake news. Just the way he wants it…
