Will Donald Trump use Executive Privilege to block James Comey from testifying?

June 2, 2017

After Sean Spicer refused to rule out the possibility of Donald Trump using Executive Privilege to block James Comey from testifying in the Russian collusion scandal the internet is ablaze with speculation. Here is more:

White House spokesman Sean Spicer on Friday did not rule out the possibility that President Trump might invoke executive privilege to try to stop former FBI director James Comey from testifying Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee as part of its investigation into Russia’s interference in the presidential election and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian officials.

“Obviously, it’s got to be reviewed,” Spicer said in response to a reporter’s question about executive privilege. “My understanding is the date for that hearing was just set. I haven’t spoken to counsel yet. I don’t know how they’re going to respond.”

To be fair there could be the possibility that Sean Spicer has no knowledge about this because it has not been discussed with him so he could not give a more definite answer, however I tend to believe there has been discussions about this and he knows this option is on the table but nothing has been decided to this point.

If Donald Trump does invoke Executive Privilege this will be very troubling to me because it has shades of Barack Obama invoking Executive Privilege to protect Eric Holder, and possibly himself, when the Fast and Furious scandal was getting too close. It sure would look as if Donald Trump has something to hide and it will fuel the speculation on the left. (Even though nobody on the left batted an eye when Barack Obama did it.)

If Donald Trump has nothing to hide he should let James Comey testify.

Can he invoke executive privilege if he has already given his side of the story?

That’s a good question, isn’t that how the Republicans tried to say Lois Lerner waived her right to plead the Fifth? This would be a little difference, I don’t know what the answer is.

It’s a nasty situation no matter how it gets dealt with… Comey must be mad as hell regarding the way he was treated…. He can’t invoke priviledge its finally starting to die down.. he will never hear the end of it.

Trump is dammed if he does and dammed if he doesn’t. Comedy is following Hillary’s playbook – blame everyone and everything for his firing. Comedy sounds like a real wuss and not an FBI Director. Was Trump holding a baseball bat, or club twisting Comedy’s arm or kicking him in balls when they talked about Flynn? Then this becomes his word against Trump’s.

The Senate Unintelligence Committee is a farce and all of their hearings become three ring circuses, it’s only purpose is to feed the Fake News cycle and give air time to idiots.

I wouldn’t be surprised if Trump said something like “man I wish this investigation was over” without even meaning anything and Comey interpreted it the way he wanted to. We just don’t know at this time.
I agree with you on the investigations; they are all just a dog and pony show.

Back about May 17 Comedy is alleged to have leaked his own memo on his meeting with Trump.

““I hope you can see your way clear to letting this go, to letting Flynn go,” Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey, according to the memo. “He is a good guy. I hope you can let this go.”

Mr. Trump told Mr. Comey that Mr. Flynn had done nothing wrong, according to the memo.

Mr. Comey did not say anything to Mr. Trump about curtailing the investigation, only replying: “I agree he is a good guy.”

So what has changed? Comedy has let Hillary, Huma, and Anthony Weiner off. This is pure political bs. Comedy is clearly a deep state minion that wants to overthrow the President.

Agree CJ. The globalist elite who put these ‘wusses’ in, like them that way so they can dictate to them and know they’ll do their bidding. Comey could’ve/should’ve gone rightly after Hilly, and others you mention, but he probably was told to ‘stand down.’ Just like the black mayor told the police during the Ferguson (Soros sponsored) riots. Obama put him in – need anything else be said?
Let Trey grill him – truth will emerge at some point.
Who knows maybe he’ll have an ‘accident’ OR they’ll just ‘re-process/re-program’ his brain (CIA style – MKUltra). If he’s too much of a threat to the Agenda, something will happen. Maybe give him Hilly glasses that she wore during the Benghazi questioning – wonder what all those did for her instead of wearing an ear piece that might be seen.
I see ABC calling Trump “Dangerous President” – but Obama wasn’t. Pretty clear.
