Bernie Sanders says colleges must let ‘controversial’ guests speak on campuses

June 19, 2017

Bernie SandersThere has been a concerted effort by the left on college campuses to shut down opposition speech, we saw it most recently at Berkeley when Anne Coulter had to cancel a speech due to death threats and it also happened recently to Milo Yiannopoulos.

The left not only does not want to listen to an opposing view but they wish to stifle free speech and limit it to one side so that the other side cannot even be heard by people who are either curious about what the other side thinks, or even by those on campus who might happen to agree with the other side.

Bernie Sanders has suddenly emerged as a voice of reason for the left on this issue. Here is what he had to say about this issue yesterday on CBS:

Sunday on CBS, Sanders agreed that efforts to stop free speech can contribute to creating a powder keg.

Asked about protests on college campuses in an effort to stop controversial speakers, the senator emphasized that “people have a right to speak.”

“And you have a right, if you are on a college campus not to attend. You have a right to ask hard questions about the speaker if you disagree with him or her,” Sanders added. “But what — why should we be afraid of somebody coming on a campus or anyplace else and speaking? You have a right to protest. But I don’t quite understand why anybody thinks it is a good idea to deny somebody else the right to express his or her point of view.”

I cannot believe I am about to write this but I agree with Bernie Sanders on this issue. The speakers have a right to speak if they are invited and the left has a right to protest the speaker but the person should be allowed to speak.

I feel the same way about what has happened in the last couple of days with the Shakespeare in the Park controversy: I do not agree with what they are doing but suddenly the right has decided they do not have the right to put on this play with its obscene ending and have tried to shut it down.

We have reached the point in this country where nobody even wants to listen to what the other side has to say on any given issue, this is not healthy and last week it almost became deadly. This has to end! Maybe Bernie Sanders is feeling a little bit guilty because one of his campaign volunteers tried to kill Republicans or maybe he has always felt this way, I do not know, but maybe some good can come from this yet.

Makes sense. What would make more sense is for him (Bernie) to go after the fact that his election was stolen away from him. What about that? Free speech is noted already (regardless how uncouth and rank it becomes) but him not pursuing being robbed by the DNC party via Hilly I’d think top on his list. I guess he was told ‘stand down’ or we’ll bury you alive (type of convincing).
Well, even you get to agree w/ them now and again Steve! when they happen to be right! 😉 Even an old broken clock can be twice in a day!

In theory BS sounds sensible. However, the reality was the universities were unable to provide adequate security for Milo and Coulter and they cancelled their appearances. Do universities have to guarantee the speakers ability to speak?

The rhetoric on both sides of the political spectrum is disturbing. All of the entertainment industry idiots can say what they want. Madonna, Snoop Dog, Kathy Griffin can say or do what they want. Journalist however need to be held accountable for their rhetoric.

Maybe Rachel Maddow needs to be sued by those injured by Hodgkinson since she incited him.

As Jason Raimondo points out in his post at antiwar.com “Hodgkinson’s Disease: Politics and Paranoia in the Age of Trump” – A would-be assassin was incited and validated by the media and the Democratic leadership

I think the train has left the station. Bernie calls Trump “The most dangerous President in the history of the Nation.” I don’t feel the love.

https://polldaddy.com/js/rating/rating.jsI’m posting this one again because it didn’t open correctly the other day:

And because it states why Bernie and others are afraid of Trump – slime-balls only like their own kind. ‘Lower taxes, no plan parenthood tax payer abortions, MAGA’ all those things are so ‘dangerous’! to the slime creatures (dark spirits of the lagoon)! Shows how ‘sick’ they’ve become and misery loves company.

Thanks for sharing it again. I was able to view them but I wouldn’t be surprised if somebody is trying to shut these down.
