Jeh Johnson testifies: The Democratic National Committee did not want DHS help with potential hacking

  Yesterday I wrote about one aspect of the Russia collusion/hacking scandal which was being ignored by the Democrats and the mainstream media and that was the “unmaking” scandal. You can read that post here.

  But there is a second aspect to the official Democratic narrative which has been ignored as well and it is a biggie: The Democrats claim the Russians hacked the Democratic National Committee in order to influence the election but they conveniently forget that somebody tried to hack into the Republican National Committee as well.

  The FBI warned both National Committees during the campaign that somebody was trying to hack into the systems. The difference is that the Republican National Committee took the warning to heart and implemented the FBI’s recommended changes while the Democratic National Committee did not want the help of the FBI and determined the warning was a “prank call.” In addition to this Barack Obama was also warned about potential Russia interference in the election months before the election and did not do anything about it.

  Fast forward to today: former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson testified today in front of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and he stated that in addition to not taking the FBI’s advice the Democratic National Committee was not interested in help from the Department of Homeland Security. In his prepared remarks before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, former Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Jeh Johnson revealed that the Democratic National Committee (DNC) “did not feel it needed” DHS assistance into hacks of the Committee’s systems.

This means that the DNC, faced with hacks later attributed to Russia, turned down the possibility of assistance from at least two federal agencies – the DHS and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Johnson’s prepared remarks read:

Sometime in 2016 I became aware of a hack into systems of the Democratic National Committee. Fresh from the experience with the Office of Personnel Management, I pressed my staff to know whether DHS was sufficiently proactive, and on the scene helping the DNC identify the intruders and patch vulnerabilities. The answer, to the best of my recollection, was not reassuring: the FBI and the DNC had been in contact with each other months before about the intrusion, and the DNC did not feel it needed DHS’s assistance at that time.

  Jeh Johnson, a liberal Democrat, has now confirmed what was previously reported about the Democratic National Committee’s lackadaisical attitude in the wake of the warning from the FBI: the Democratic National Committee was in contact with the FBI “months before about the intrusion” but did nothing.

 The Democrats did not take the threat seriously while the Republicans did and now suddenly, to paraphrase Barack Obama’s mentor Reverend Wright, they are indignant now that their chickens have come home to roost.
