Donald Trump Jr. releases his email chain about Russia

  There really is only one big story tonight and of course it is the news that Donald Trump Jr. released his email chain about his meeting with a Russian lawyer. This all started yesterday when the New York Times broke the story of the meeting.

  Here is more on today’s events:

Donald Trump Jr. on Tuesday released a stunning chain of emails detailing his conversations about setting up a campaign meeting with a Russian lawyer who had offered compromising information on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

The information “would incriminate Hillary and her dealings with Russia and would be very useful to your father,” reads one of the emails from Rob Goldstone, who acted as an intermediary to set up the meeting.

“This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump,” wrote Goldstone.

In a June 3, 2016, email released on Twitter, referring to the information on Clinton, Trump Jr. told Goldstone: “If it’s what you say I love it especially later in the summer.”

In another email, Goldstone suggested the information about Clinton could be given to then-candidate Donald Trump through Rhona Graff, his longtime assistant.

“I can also send this info to your father via Rhona, but it is ultra sensitive so wanted to send to you first,” Goldstone wrote.

  There is nothing wrong with a person wanting to collect opposition research on an opponent of course which is why Donald Trump Jr. “would love it” if he could get the information but the troubling part is when Goldstone said  this was “part of Russia and its government’s support for Mr. Trump.” Despite his original assertion to the contrary Donald Trump Jr. did know Russia was involved in this. This is what I believe will take Donald Trump Jr. down.

  This reeks of a setup, especially with Natalia Veselnitskaya claiming she had no connection to the Kremlin and had no damaging information on Hillary Clinton but that does not matter because the President’s son thought she did and was willing to accept information from Russia to help his father. This is pretty damning in my opinion although now that I have read the story more closely tonight it is not as damning as I thought this morning and it must be remembered that Hillary Clinton’s campaign did almost the exact same thing with Ukraine.

  This needs to be investigated more closely, and we know it will be, however Hillary Clinton’s interaction with Ukraine must also be looked into if those in Washington really are interesting in protecting the integrity of the democratic process.

  On a side note I find Donald Trump’s statement about how he is proud of his son’s transparency a little disingenuous. If he was truly being transparent he would have disclosed this meeting from the beginning and not only after he was caught.
