The Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign funded the Russian dossier

 Last week, in an attempt to determine who funded the Russian dossier at the center of the Trump/Russia collusion investigation, the Congress called representatives of Fusion GPS in to testify but they all took the Fifth. A couple of days later the group quickly filed an injunction to halt the Congress from subpoenaing its financial records.

  It is obvious Fusion GPS does not want anybody to know who funded this research and many of us had a suspicion as to why this is. Last night our suspicion might have been confirmed when the Washington Post released a report which claims the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign paid nearly $10 million to the organization. Here is more:

The Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee helped fund research that resulted in a now-famous dossier containing allegations about President Trump’s connections to Russia and possible coordination between his campaign and the Kremlin, people familiar with the matter said.

Marc E. Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington firm, to conduct the research.

After that, Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community, according to those people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

Elias and his law firm, Perkins Coie, retained the company in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Before that agreement, Fusion GPS’s research into Trump was funded by an unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’s research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

  We do not yet know who the unnamed Republican is who started funding the opposition research. My first thought was that it was John McCain because he is the one who handed the dossier over to the FBI but now I am more inclined to believe it was Jeb Bush. But what we do know what started out as simple opposition research morphed into something else once the Democratic National Committee and the Clinton campaign started funding it.

  Because it was at that time that Fusion GPS hired Christopher Steele, a British spy with known ties to Russia. This means it was at this point that a campaign actually started working with foreign governments to gain damaging intelligence against the opposition party–even if it was through one degree of separation.

  If I remember correctly Paul Manfort had to step down as Donald Trump’s campaign manager simply for saying he would be interested in obtaining damning information about the opposition party from a foreign nation even though it never came to fruition, yet here we have the Clinton campaign actually funding a group which was trying to obtain damning information from a foreign nation. The hubris is astounding!

  And the real kicker in this, besides the possible criminality and hypocrisy of the Democratic party, is the fact that the Democrats funded the dossier which was used as justification to open up an investigation into the Trump campaign after James Comey leaked his notes to the press with the hope it would lead to an investigation.
