Sunday, August 12 open thread

August 12, 2018

Here is the open thread for Sunday, August 12th. Please feel free to post links to interesting articles and to discuss whatever issues arise during the course of the day. Nothing is off-topic here.

Last week we discussed 5 stories, did you miss any of them? If so there is an easy way to make sure it does not happen again. You can subscribe to America’s Watchtower to receive email updates. You can also follow America’s Watchtower on Facebook and Twitter by clicking the links on the right. The Twitter widget in the sidebar is fully interactive and updates my tweets in real time, and it allows you to respond or retweet my tweets right from the blog.

As some of you might remember I had a health issue which put me in the hospital for several days back in May. After a couple of months of seeing the doctors I am going to have heart surgery this Friday, August 17th. I will be having my aortic valve replaced as well as part of the aorta.

I am told this surgery is routine nowadays and the risk is minimal and I am strengthened by Philippians 4:6,7: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ.” (NIV)

Recovery looks as if it is going to be tougher than it was with my brain surgery so it looks like I will not be doing any blogging for a little while after Thursday but I will try to get everybody updated on my condition as soon as possible.

Thanks for letting us know Steve. Good and comforting verses too. When we realize that we been having help from the spirit realm even while being formed in our mother’s womb – God overseeing – there’s a soundness in our “core”. A richness beyond all else!
Glad you indicated the ‘Niv’ – using the word “anxious” which in the King’s Bible 😉 uses “care” which brings to mind “the cares of this world.” [Mark 4:19 And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.]
“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
“Understanding” = intellect, that is mind; thought feeling or will; meaning.
And the “heart” being the source from which these thoughts & feelings:
Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. [issues: boundary; source; application; bring out ~ manifesting the ‘spirit’ of a man/woman, clean or unclean.]
“Passeth” = to hold oneself above that is (figuratively) to excel; participle (as adjective or neuter as noun) superior superiority: – better excellency, higher pass supreme.
Proverbs 16:22 Understanding is a wellspring of life unto him that hath it: but the instruction of fools is folly.
Placing our ‘faith and trust’ in the ‘One who is Faithful!’ regarding our ‘core issues’ is wise, and takes practice! 😊

Thanks, I debated whether to use the KJV or NIV version of the verse and ended up going with the NIV. This is one of my favorite verses and it really does help when you turn it over to God and trust in Him. Like you said, it does take practice but when you do there really is a peace that comes over you. I am working on a short post about this verse that I hope to post this week.

Your choice of the NIV is understandable, because it ‘speaks’ more to the human ear and understanding. I was ‘jabbing you a little’ (mean me 🤭) I “confess” 😭. 🤣
That ‘practice’ thing, is not normal for us humans because it shows we (in our flesh) are limited and can’t do the ‘great and wonderful’ things we ‘imagine’ doing with the One who’s Great & Wonderful! helping us. 📖🎉

        Correction: “without” the One …
God makes possible things ‘impossible for humankind’.
The serpent’s lie in the Garden is something God planned all along to give to His Children! Not by ‘works’ of the flesh but ‘manifestation and works of the sprit’ by His SPIRIT!

I knew you were jabbing me a little because we have talked about the two translations before. 😉 You are right about why I went with the NIV, I think it is easier for people to understand if they don’t read the Bible much.

With all the propaganda movies and tv shows leading people down the path of ruin, these movie reviews brought up some interesting things to consider.

Well that certainly was interesting, what show was that about?

Westworld, Netflix TV series. It promotes host bodies – made by man – as superior, now that they have been ‘given consciousness.’ Its rated “Mature Audiences” meaning ‘unnecessary’ nudity, swearing, sexual scenes and such. Plus all the eugenist indoctrination programming going on.
The con: If you’re mature you can ‘watch’ this … if you’re not ‘a mature adult’ and think it too crude and debase, then you’re not a ‘mature adult’ keeping up with the ‘new – unethical/reprobate – morality’. Many twisted meanings, high minded thinking, and the usual suggestive behavior modification away from God, under the ‘pit mentality’

I don’t use Netflix so that explains why I never heard of this before but it does sound quite interesting. I would like to check it out just to see what they are teaching behind the veil.

I wonder a bit about this, if maybe it was more ‘staged’ than spontaneous – for the fact of the filming. Both of them are in the scenes together, so there was another person doing the filming using a cell phone possible. But all in all it makes the point.

It might have been staged but it is also possible somebody there who was not involved with antifa filmed it. These guys are spot on, antifa and the left want to goad the others into violence so it will make the news and make the right look like the irrational ones.

Yep. This was the ‘calm’ Antifa ~ faces showing and not covered – not violent.
