Like many, I am trying to understand the causes of the radical change we see in our society and I wish I had the brain power to “see” what that is. That one prescient insight that could boil it down to the essence. I understand that throughout all generations, there have been “scandals” where social ruin was predicted. Men wearing long hair, woman smoking in public and on and on. But social psychologist like Jonathan Haidt say something big has changed. As Obama said, “fundamentally transformed”.
But I do have a theory.
For millennia, the family has been the basic social unit. The family “created” (gave birth) that unit. Beside birth, the family provided for that unit. The family taught that unit. And throughout history, the parents were the GATEKEEPER to the family. The parents, usually the father, was the Sentinel against invasion, whether it was nature, animal or human. And religion reinforced that system.
By-in-large, that is gone. Now, even if there is an engaged father, social media and TV has direct access, and often control or the family. The liberal education machine has control. Pop culture has control. The parent is only an enabler now, expected to turn over their control and abdicate their roll and give it over to those “who know best”.
Now subtract any “Higher Power”, any belief in God, and that leaves humans as the highest authority in society, So if humans are the highest authority, why is ANYONE surprised that one of these “highest beings” chooses when death will occur for someone else? You might say that an individual isn’t the highest being, but rather “society itself” is the highest being. The family core of the society has been replaced, so whom exactly is this “society”? Just other humans. So again, without a Gatekeeper, and without any higher authority, why is ANYONE surprised?

I think you have the basic problem there. The left has gradually used the government to replace God and the family over the years and because of this they are able to instill their “values” into society and they have lessened the influence of the parents on their children. Without the direct influence of their parents the children slowly lose their moral compass and fall into the system.

in a video Dr. Jordan Peterson reads from Karl Marx. Marx writes that after man discards the chains of religion, man will “revolve around himself as his one true sun” i.e. he will be the center of his universe. Nothing more important than himself.
As the country, especially the young, runs toward Marxism, you have ask When you are the center of the universe, what stops you from deciding the fate of others?
