Supreme Court refuses to hear appeal to California sanctuary law
California’s sanctuary law, which forbids local police from helping Federal immigration agents, was being challenged in the courts. The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals had ruled that there is nothing in California law which requires local police to assist Federal officers and upheld the law.
The Trump administration challenged the decision and yesterday the Supreme Court handed Donald Trump a major setback to his immigration policy by refusing to hear the appeal. Here is more:
California’s “sanctuary” immigration enforcement law will not go before the U.S. Supreme Court, handing California a capstone victory in an ongoing clash with the federal government.
The high court on Monday turned down the Justice Department’s request to review a federal appeals court decision that largely upheld three California laws. One of the laws passed soon after Donald Trump became president, Senate Bill 54, partitions local law enforcement from federal immigration authorities, protecting arrested immigrants and low-level offenders from deportation.
The federal government asked the Supreme Court to review SB 54. The court announced Monday that it declined that review, though Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas would have heard the case.
The story says only Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas would have agreed to hear the case, but here we find out that Brett Kavanaugh and Neil Gorsuch refused to hear the appeal so I am guessing this decision was handed down by the whole court and not just a panel. And of course that means John Roberts strikes again…

Gov Newsom will have both hands out now, wanting the Federal government to bail him out….just what we need. The people paying taxes are becoming fewer and fewer, maybe Newsom does not know or does not care. Either is bad. I cannot imagine what it cost to live in California.

It is a vicious circle, he has to keep raising taxes because less people are paying taxes but the more he raises taxes the more people eventually leave the state. He has to know this and yet he doesn’t care.

No funding for any sanctuary states or cities with taxpayer dollars. If they want to be on their own, then they must be on their own. It’s absolutely unbelievable that we even have this nonsense in our own country. No taxpayer money to be used for rebuilding the burned out communities by BLM either.

Thanks, I am glad you found my blog and like it. I agree, it is funny how these governors bash Trump at every turn and then turn around and beg him for handouts when they are in trouble. If you are in violation of Federal law the President should be able to say no money for you.

Welcome, “gardener”. Common sense tells us that they should not be rewarded for bad deeds, but common sense has gone out the window right now. People I thought were intelligent and conservative have fallen into line with what the MSM is telling them on the tube. I want to say maybe it is old age creeping up on them, but I am getting older and still have the same steadfast morals and political ideals that I have always had. I do not know what has changed. Maybe they just have given up the fight or to them what the MSM is saying seems logical, who knows. We cannot give up on America, but it seems many have already. I will stand with our President. He may not always do things in a politically way that is acceptable to most people, but then again these are not acceptable times anymore, right?

Totally agreed. People who choose to tap into the constant hysteria and propaganda of MSM and other media are lazily choosing to be brainwashed. Unfortunately, they’ve decided to stop thinking for themselves and become sheeple who do not realize or understand that BLM is not about black lives but that they are the left’s militia pushing through a Marxist agenda.
I, too, still have the same basic morals and ethics. But, while I admit I was once a moderate liberal, their rabid socialist agenda has pushed me much further right.
Trump’s behavior has been embarrassing at times and not what we would have called “presidential” in the past but he is a no nonsense say what you mean kind of guy and I respect that more and more. I do believe he truly loves America and I pray the masses will vote for him if for no other reason than that.

Unfortunately too many people still get their news from the MSM and they are under the impression they would never lie to them. Trump does give them material to work with and it is frustrating, but the truth is even if he didn’t give them material they would generate it themselves.

The taxpayers of the entire Left Coast more than deserve what is landing on them like a house in a tornado. No matter how many times they may click their heels this is the home they have voted for ad nauseum.
PS I had life long family in California all of whom except for one have left for Texas over the past three years.

Peter, a little harsh there. As a Californian, the last Governor I voted for that won was Pete Wilson, and I sure don’t deserve what the radical left has done to CA. My mistake was to own and manage rental property here. Not so easy to pull up stakes and leave. I am leaving the now leftist city I have spent my life in for one that still has some freedom.

Peter, I moved from Illinois…on the whole the State is Republican, but then you have the Chicago area (Cook County) and a couple other counties around the St. Louis area (Madison and St, Clair Counties) that are solid Democrat. I believe there is another down around the Marion County area, as well. The Democrats have a solid super majority in the State House/Senate and even though we had Gov Rauner before Gov Pritzker got in, there was still no way to get anything passed thru that the Right wanted. Mike Madigan controls what goes on in Springfield and is not retiring any time soon. The Unions from Chicago have a big hand in the control of Illinois. So, people saying you get what you voted for just does not apply in some instances….there is fraud and Unions that control the vote, so try as we might, it never mattered. Sad, but true.
We still have a lot of rentals in Central Illinois so we still have an investment in Illinois and being born there and growing up there, it makes me sick what has happened to the state.

My husband has relatives that are very far left and think things are wonderful there….they all live along the coast. From what I was told the further inland you go the more conservative it becomes. Is that a fair assessment? Having never been in the area, I do not know. I guess like any other states you have hot pockets of corruption mostly in the bigger cities?

I think it is probably quite a bit like Illinois and New York where the rural areas are conservative but the population in the big cities carries the vote and the agenda.

Of course it was a broad generalization out of frustration knowing full well there as with most blue states the big city plantations overwhelm the votes from the hinterlands. I don’t mean to offend. I first moved to LA area (West Covina) in 1969 and it was wonderful. For me hanging out in Colorado Blvd in Pasadena was the coolest. One could even walk on the strip or go to the Griffith Observatory without a second thought and how about Big Bear, Solvang or Santa Barbara. It’s a tough place to leave. What the state has become is beyond the pale. After a year I returned with my company to NJ but visited many times throughout the years. I returned to NJ, another great place to live and grow up in the 50’s and 60’s- even the 70’s And 80’s but for the past 20 years or so it’s been a great place to leave. NJ is as is the left coast, solid blue Clinton/Obama country where an “R” Vote is an exercise in futility. It seems we’re all in the same boat or rather, a sinking ship. Sorry to offend.

Frustration brings out a lot in all of us. I am frustrated with my birth state of Illinois and once in awhile get disgusted with the voters, thinking they are just not voting or things would be better. Guess I am fooling myself, once the left gets a hold of politics there is very little chance of reversing it. Now, you add the vote-by-mail to that scenario and what do we have but that perfect storm. Peter, do you remember during the 2nd term of Obama getting re-elected? He was so calm, even though the votes were not in his favor, they kept coming in state after state for the right. Then, the states, we knew we HAD started changing over to Obama. He had that smug look on his face because he knew it was in the bag for him. I believe a lot of us were on this blog commenting that night in disbelief! Crooks and fraud is what the Democrat party is based on anymore. That and keep attacking the right so hard all they can do is try to stay afloat. The right has become too nice…I am not nice anymore the older I get and hate the party acting that way. You cannot win anything, anymore by being nice!

I seem to remember there were over 100% registered voters that voted! Wasn’t there one state that was 115% ? So corrupt, but the right did not contest any of it. Now, if it was for the right, you are correct, they found trunk loads of ballots just to take them over the top. Yep, for Obama!

Yes, I remember that. And in those counties with over 100% voter participation there was not even one vote for Romney. You would think they would have at least thrown a few his way to make it look good but they did not care how it looked.

NV Gov mafia had a smug look on his face too knowing he was going ‘to Win!’ (Reid stronghold of criminals/liars/cheaters) even though he was ‘down in the count’ until the ‘very end’! Like MN Al Franken, votes appeared and he ‘usurped’ the position. Broward County – Ballots R Us! truck loads!

Zip, it has become pretty common, hasn’t it? With being from Illinois, I watched Obama coming up in the ranks, he was a “do nothing”, mostly voting present. But, he knew the right people and those people had money and he was new and fresh and people thought he was going places….well, he HAS gone places, but those have been dark places! I know he brings up about being from Chicago, but does anyone really know where he is from?
On another note, I have worked the elections either being a judge or a poll watcher, for years….when we finished up and loaded the ballots in the trunk, you had to go right to the designated place for a drop off and sign off on it. Pretty hard to misplace them, but someone they show up in a lot of strange places, don’t they?
