New York City Health Commissioner resigns over Bill de Blasio’s mishandling of COVID-19

August 5, 2020

New York became the epicenter of the COVID-19 outbreak due partly to the congestion in New York City and partly because of the mishandling of the epidemic by of Andrew Cuomo and Bill de Blasio.

Now we are learning that the New York City Health Commissioner has resigned over a disagreement in the way Bill de Blasio is handling the COVID-19 crisis. Here is more:

New York City’s health commissioner, Dr. Oxiris Barbot, resigned on Tuesday and voiced her “deep disappointment” with Mayor Bill de Blasio’s handling of the pandemic, renewing scrutiny of his leadership during the crisis just as the city faces pressing decisions about how quickly to reopen schools and businesses.

Dr. Barbot’s departure came after escalating tensions between City Hall and top city health department officials, which had begun at the start of the coronavirus outbreak in March, burst into public view and raised concerns that the feuding was undermining crucial public health policies.

As you can see the tensions began at the start of the crisis and have escalated. This was not a rash decision and it is not over one issue. Here is more:

“I leave my post today with deep disappointment that during the most critical public health crisis in our lifetime, that the health department’s incomparable disease control expertise was not used to the degree it could have been,” Dr. Barbot said in her resignation email sent to Mr. de Blasio, a copy of which was shared with The New York Times.

“Our experts are world renowned for their epidemiology, surveillance and response work. The city would be well served by having them at the strategic center of the response not in the background.”

Ironically she resigned because the mayor refused to listen to his experts, which is exactly what people on the left, such as Bill de Blasio, have accused the President of. But  you do not need experts when you are being guided by politics and not by science. In his misguided zeal to make the President look bad he has neglected his duty to the people of his city.

Sad indeed there are no fail-safe mechanisms to recall and fire dimwitted incompetent political animals like de Blasio and Cuomo. While he personally absolved himself of any blame Cuomo is directly responsible for the nursing home deaths of some 6,500 elderly while de Blasio is directly responsible for the death of the city that once was the capital of the world. As for his City Health Commissioner Barbot she should have acted on or reacted to de Blasio’s mishandling a while ago rather than sit on the fence for months. But then as we know it is impolite to call out a democrat for neglect, misdeeds, malfeasance and mishandling of a pandemic.
As a footnote keep in mind not unlike AOC who threw away 25,000 sorely needed well paying jobs for her constituents de Blasio and Cuomo would there be no term limits would be in their respective offices for life if they so chose. Life in the Rotten Apple goes on and remains a solid impenetrable blue.

You nailed it Peter! There should be a way to recall these clowns but I wonder if New Yorkers still support them?

New Yorkers still kiss the ground he walks on. For the umpteenth time quoting the great Dr Michael Savage: Liberalism is a mental disorder.

I think they just promise the people everything and the people still believe they are going to get it. They are basically bribed…

Grant it they have the ‘unions’ in their pocket, but this was obvious ~ it was right before the night close that ‘votes’ came in to secure the Mafia candidate. My brother said u could tell something was up because he had ‘that smug, knowing look’ on his face.

Sickening! They are so brazen about it, they know there is nothing we can do about it and they are mocking us.

Spoke with a couple from CA, he said they had a Recall out for the Gov there too, but because criminals were in the mix the Recall didn’t happen – regardless of the signatures! I told him here, the DS SOS did the counting of the Recall #’s and said there weren’t enough – haha, probably just ‘happened’ to lose a few Countries paperwork! I’m hoping the ‘Indictments’ take them out! Just need some people to do the job they ‘swore’ to do ~ ‘uphold the Constitution!’ ect. 🙂

I didn’t know there was a recall effort in California but for some reason I am not surprised it got squashed. I am not holding out hopes on anybody ever being indicted.
