Sheila Jackson-Lee introduces draconian gun registration and licensing legislation

February 9, 2021

It was only a matter of time before the Democrats introduced some form of gun control legislation now that they control both branches of the Congress and the Presidency. We knew whatever they put forth was going to be bad but the legislation Sheila Jackson-Lee has put forward might be even worse than we feared. Here is more:

Texas Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee has proposed a gun control bill that would create a national firearm registry, set a minimum gun ownership age at 21 and both require licensing and psychological evaluations.

The proposed Sabika Sheikh Firearm Licensing and Registration Act would make it a crime to possess a firearm or ammunition without the new license or sell one to someone who doesn’t have the license.

A registry, psychological evaluations, and licensing and we are just getting started. By the way isn’t the idea of licensing guns what the Second Amendment was designed to protect us from? Let’s continue:

It also requires gun owners to pay for insurance and bans ammunition of .50 caliber or greater, except for law enforcement and a limited range of security personnel.

Gun owners would also have to complete a government training course, have a clean record and register their firearms with the federal government. Registry information would be available to law enforcement from the local to the federal level as well as the U.S. military.

Anyone who has ever been hospitalized due to mental illness, drug or alcohol abuse, homicidal or suicidal thoughts or a brain disease would not be eligible to obtain a firearms license.

The psychological evaluation process would also take into account the psychological condition of other members of the licensee’s household, current and former spouses, relatives and associates.

Did you catch the insurance requirement, or the fact everybody in your household will need a psychological exam? Oh, there is also a special license required if you would like to display an antique firearm on your wall or own a “military-style weapon.”

This is what passes for “common sense” gun legislation in the Democrats’ minds, and in the unlikely event that a couple of sane Democrats step up and stop this legislation we can rest assured it will make it to Joe Biden’s desk in the form of Executive Orders.

HR 127 is null and void at the outset. This is clearly an attempt to apply Jim Crow logic and tactics to the new vilified class. That vilified class is the self reliant class in America. Gun ownership, property ownership, means of production ownership, independence from state subsidy and control are all symptoms of this class. Statists, collectivists and other forms of fascists see self reliant people as the true barrier standing in the way of contemporary society and their chosen brand of utopia. Blame ‘those people,’ isolate them, demonize them, and strip them of the means to be self reliant. Failing that it is off to the camps with you. I am wondering if the likes of Jackson-Lee are bright enough to recognize the historical parallels.

History does not necessarily repeat itself but it does rhyme. In this case these dreamland statutes and programs smack of Jim Crow, National Socialism and Bolshevik Socialism with a dash of Third World Thugism. Self awareness is not a Progressive New Left strength. As they march off under this banner and to the beat of this drum I am reminded of the days before Jonestown in San Francisco. All hailed the wonders of the New Savior Jim Jones. No one dared question his wisdom nor his direct connection to (some undefined) God. When disaster struck and the facade was stripped away and the reality of that utopian movement was exposed for all to see that reality was met by ears that still would not hear and eyes that would not see. The answer to those previously deluded was to dive deeper in to delusion and deny the flaws of the utopian movement and utopian leaders. Existing and persistent critics were further vilified and ignored. We see this here.

States must stand and invoke the powers of the Bill of Rights against Federal usurpation. Many states have laws in draft to counter this federal effort to render moot Natural Law understandings of Liberty. States, counties, cities and individuals must stand in unison and solidarity under one flag: liberty and justice for all. We must stand against a rogue federal government and just say no. No. Never. No. Semper Fidelis

Wow! You are on a roll! I hope you are right about the states stepping up, we know states like Texas will. We have seen some “gun sanctuary” areas pop up around the country so hopefully this will become more popular.

Will I ever be able to stop throwing up? If the Republicans stay silent on this one… why don’t they just get it over with and pass Sharia law?

Might just as well go whole hog with it… not much stopping them now. Christmas every day for them.

That’s their mentality Bunkerville! They have been waiting for this day for years and now within a year I think they will have implemented everything they have been dreaming about.

I’m with nrringlee. I’ll also add that most of the provisions of her bill wouldn’t make it passed the first hearing in Superior Court, let alone ANY court of appeals.

Jackson-Lee being who she is, you can bet she’s up to something, but this is more likely a smokescreen for a different agenda. I don’t know if it’s going to come from her or someone else, but you can be sure something is in the works.

Take a deep breath and keep your ears open.

In the meantime, it remains to be seen if Trump will make a comeback or not. The Libs are pursuing a full court press against both him and his entire family. He’s tough, but even he may not survive.

The next question is: If Trump doesn’t survive, who will be the next Donald Trump?

I have a Liberal contact in England (long story) and he is absolutely terrified that Trump will make a come back. Despite being fairly bright (BA, Political Science, UCLA, 4.0, 1965) he just doesn’t understand what the hatred and shenanigans of our Liberals are about. I’ve been sending him articles such as this one from the L.A. Times, but for a very bright guy, he’s got a huge blind spot.

One of the things he doesn’t understand is that if the Libs keep up their hatred and harassment, the next Conservative/Libertarian leader is likely to be much more radical than Trump. Hopefully not too much more radical because that could take us in a dangerous direction.

I’ve been politically active for over 50 years and I’m not quitting, so don’t you young’uns go getting soft. Stay informed, stay cynical, never fully trust any political leader, always review your own politics and don’t quit.

I just don’t trust the courts to do the right thing anymore although Trump did do a good job of getting appointees in the lower courts, so we will see.
There is never going to be a true outsider who runs again after they are finished destroying Trump. I predict Trump will end up in prison, although they won’t get him for something he did in office. He will probably be “Caponed” and they will get him on his taxes. After that who would even think about trying to go after the establishment?

In another century, I was literally on the barricades. I used to pray that I would never see anything like that again. When you’re close enough to feel the heat and smell the smoke, a flaming barricade on the streets of an American city is one of the worst things imaginable, even worse than watching a looted store burn.

Right now, I often wonder where and when I will again be on the barricades. I was hoping for a nice lazy retirement, puttering on projects in my garage and occasionally writing editorials and commentaries.

Trump wasn’t the first choice of many of the people who voted for him, but he was still obviously a better choice than Hillary. (I think I made that point here, not quite five years ago.) He was also willing to put his ass on the line. I really hope the Dems don’t Capone him as you put it, but they seem bent on doing it at any cost. It also means they are terrified of Trump and by extension, all of us here. That’s why the hatred. The Dems are terrified of the will of people they can’t bamboozle or bribe.

If Trump survives, 2022 and 2024 aren’t that far away. If not, we need to find someone who can pick up his mantle and is also willing to put his ass on the line. It doesn’t matter if he’s an insider or an outsider, only that he or she has the cojones and is willing to actually try. We don’t need another Mitt Romney or John McCain.

In terms of ability, Trey Gowdy and Newt Gingrich come to mind, also Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump, Governor Kasich and even Marco Rubio. My personal dream team would be any combination of Trey Gowdy and Condoleeza Rice. Put Condoleeza on the top of the ticket and watch the Libs choke. There are still good possibilities, but which of them is willing?

Again – Stay informed, stay cynical, never fully trust any political leader, always review your own politics and don’t quit.

Sorry I’ve rambled a bit. I hope some of it makes sense.
