ObamaCare: SEIU to drop healthcare coverage for children

November 29, 2010

Citing Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law, the SEIU in New York has announced that it will be dropping coverage for the children of its members.

new federal health-care reform legislation requires plans with dependent coverage to expand that coverage up to age 26,” Behroozi wrote in a letter to members Oct. 22. “Our limited resources are already stretched as far as possible, and meeting this new requirement would be financially impossible

The early returns on the healthcare reform law have been disastrous to say the least: Texas doctors announced they would pull out of Medicaid, Boeing announced it would have to cut back on healthcare benefits, the AARP announced it would also be cutting benefits, McDonald’s and 110 other multi-million dollar companies were granted waivers by the Obama regime and will not have to comply with the healthcare reform law, and now this.

The SEIU will be dropping its  Family Health Plus Buy-In Program and because of this decision an estimated 30,000 low income families will lose healthcare benefits for their children. There is some disagreement as to whether the SEIU joined this program voluntary or if the state of New York forced them into this program run by a third party, but either way, this does not take away from the fact that the healthcare reform law was supposed to provide affordable healthcare to more Americans and here we have yet another example of people losing coverage because of the new law. The SEIU is trying to shift the blame from the healthcare law to the state of New York rather than admit that they supported a policy which ultimately cost some of its members healthcare insurance.

This is particularly embarrassing to the president as the SEIU is one of his–and the Democrats in general–biggest supporters and donors and they threw their weight behind this bill. At one point going so far as to threaten to pull support from any Democrats who opposed the legislation. Now they are cutting healthcare benefits to the most vulnerable among us-the children–and they are doing it to the families that can least afford it, and these people have Barack Obama’s healthcare reform law to thank for this.

Is it just me or does it seem that we hear more news like this every day? More and more, we are beginning to see the ramifications of the new health care law and those ramifications are not pretty. Isn’t this what a lot of us tried to warn would happen?

Yes, many of us did try to warn the people what would happen but we were labeled fear mongers who just wanted the president to fail. But the more we hear about the ramifications of this law the more we learn we were right all along.

Gee I thought Obama said that anyone who has coverage won’t lose it? Don’t tell me he was wrong?!?

I think he was wrong, don’t let that ruin your faith in him. 🙂 My company recently changed our healthcare insurance because the plan we had was too expensive; I liked my insurance, I thought I was supposed to be able to keep it? What happened?

I have this picture in my picture file of a warning sign that states: “WARNING! SEIU Members attending this meeting. It shows a blue shirted picture of an SEIU member with a nightstick about to hit another who is kneeling. This is attributed to its usual tactics of “persuasion” and “getting out the vote.”

Now…………..I have this image in my mind that the one kneeling is SEIU leadership, and the members have the nightstick to “address” this little problem of theirs.

    Just my thought.

So, the chickens come home to roost. Maybe next time they should read the bill first. But I doubt that they will ever learn.

Maybe next time, we the people, should choose our elected officials more carefully. Just saying.

It serves them right for endorsing a bill without knowing what was in it, it is just a shame that we will have to suffer also!

They’re collapsing the system. Remember, their ultimate goal is single payer.

Yeah I wonder: do the SEIU folks not mind being forced to drop some coverage b/c they know full well where this is leading (full nationalization/NHS style) and they support that result.

A good question, this bill was designed to lead to single payer so in the end the SEIU will probably get what they wanted.
