Tom Harkin warns Iowa voters not to be fooled by Joni Ernst because she is attractive

November 2, 2014

Joni Ernst According to a recent poll Joni Ernst has taken a seven point lead in her race against Bruce Braley to become the next Senator from Iowa.

Outgoing Democratic Senator Tom Harkin apparently has a theory about why she is doing so well as the campaign reaches its conclusion–she is attractive–and he had a warning for the voters of Iowa.

Here is what he had to say:

“In this Senate race, I’ve been watching some of these ads,” Harkin said at the Story County Democrats’ annual fall barbecue last week honoring the retiring senator. “And there’s sort of this sense that, ‘Well, I hear so much about Joni Ernst. She is really attractive, and she sounds nice.’”

“Well I gotta to thinking about that. I don’t care if she’s as good looking as Taylor Swift or as nice as Mr. Rogers, but if she votes like Michele Bachmann, she’s wrong for the state of Iowa.”

This is insulting and condescending on two levels.  First; he assumes that the voters of Iowa are basing their decision on looks alone without listening to, or caring about, what she actually stands for. Does he really feel the voters of Iowa are that superficial? And secondly; he discounts Joni Ernst’s intelligence and positions on the issues by basically claiming she is nothing more than a pretty face.

In my opinion this is borderline misogyny. Tell me again how it is the Republicans who are waging a war on women…

Sounds like he’s got an ‘eye for her’ and is upset about it!
    Think he has some ‘issues!’

They hate her because she got off the plantation. This is the standard Democrat party line. The only way you could disagree with them was if you were a white, misogynistic, homophobic, closet pervert of uncertain parentage and dubious intelligence.

One reason that adds to their belief that Republicans/Conservatives/Libertarians are confused is that they can’t believe that any political group would publicly differ in their opinions within their own party. We discuss problems, we don’t hide them. They cannot believe that people discuss how basic principles apply to current situations.

    The Democrats actually fear this.

What we have to remember is that we’re going to be making compromises along the way. That means in the end, you vote for the party guy, even if he wasn’t your original choice. With very few exceptions, I haven’t seen any Republican candidate who wasn’t at least functionally better than the opposing Democrat.

They are so arrogant that they feel there must be something wrong with people who do not feel the same way on the issues as they do. And they also use name-calling to try to intimidate the opposition into silence.

Clearly Mr. Harkin has “issues”, guess he is used to looking at some of those Democratic women and this has thrown him thrown into a tizzy! Poor man!
On a side note, here in the Peoples Republic of Illinois, we are being told that Dick Durbin has a 99% chance of retaining his Senate seat. My question is, how can there be that many votes in Illinois for him? They will have to all come out of Chicago’s Cook County area because the majority of us do not like that man. Fraud comes to mind, but we were/are expecting it. I cannot even think about another 6 years of him being in the Senate, but it will probably come to pass, along with Quinn retaining the Governors position. He has already told us about the tax increases to come. One would think that would be enough to take a different road traveled for a side chance it might be a bit less bumpy! What a world we live in that someone like Durbin can continually lie to people and they believe him, talk about career politicians, he is working hard at keeping his job and his future income.

Back on ’09 when he supported the UN-health care, he stated, “… pay the bills for a system that is broken and unsustainable.” Was it ‘really’ broken? NO, just an excuse to ‘take it over for the ‘corrupt criminals’ of which he’s one!
He stated: it was going to ‘reduce health cost’. Now the truth is coming out more and more how much of a lie that was – so why believe anything he spouts out! His script of teleprompter lies: http://www.harkin.senate.gov/release.cfm?i=315829
      2014 saw steep increases (monthly)
      Woman age 23 2013 – $178 2014-$258
      Man age 23 2013 -$145 2014- $258
      Woman age 30 2013-$216 2014-$292
      Man age 30 2013-$168 2014-$292
      Woman age 63 2013-$ 539 2014-$741
      Man age 63 2013-$ 603 2014-$741
The ‘sickies’ who support this need to be removed.

Zip, we knew it was all a charade to get people hyped up thinking there WAS going to be a decrease and we could all afford such an AFFORDABLE health care package. What a joke on us, huh? Remove them? Surely!

I still cannot believe so many people bought into the lie that this was going to reduce costs. Sometimes people have to see it to believe it so hopefully their eyes are now open and they will do the right thing tomorrow.

Interesting that she wasn’t a Karl Rove pick in the primary. And we are fighting like you know what in Kansas, another Rove pick. I thought it was the Tea Party who could only pick losers.

I lost faith in Rove a long time ago, he is not a “friendly”, as far as I am concerned.

Karl Rove is part of the establishment and he even created a Super PAC to defend the establishment against Tea Party challengers. Rove is not on our side!
