Union boss on Keystone Pipeline defeat: Democrats “have lost their way, their purpose, and their base”
We have finally seen the coal unions wake up to the fact that Barack Obama and the Democrats do not have their best interests at heart and it culminated in several blue states turning red in the mid-term election. So much so that it is being speculated that the Democrats may have lost the coal states for the foreseeable future.
And now with the defeat of the Keystone Pipeline it would appear as if more unions are turning against the Democrats and the President.
Here is what Terry O’Sullivan, President of the Laborers’ International Union of North America, had to say about this turn of events:
Traditional blue-collar labor unions, though, desperately sought the pipeline’s approval, saying it was a test of whether the Democratic Party could be trusted on jobs.
“The majority of Democrats in the Senate and the White House just don’t get it, even though the recent election results surely should have sunk in by now. They have lost their way, their purpose and their base,” said Laborers’ International Union of North America President Terry O’Sullivan.
My only question to Mr. O’Sullivan and union members is a simple one: why in hell are you surprised by this outcome?
Barack Obama and the Democrats have made no bones about how they feel about big oil and big coal and yet you continue to blindly vote for them so who is to blame for your plight?
Perhaps it is time for these unions to start paying attention to the agenda before they blindly follow a party which does not give a damn how their policies will affect the people they claim to care about. You did this to yourselves for the Democrats have not lost their way or their purpose for they made it clear, it is you who have last your way and your purpose…
And the Unions spent mega bucks in the last election, and they sure don’t have much to show for it. Their rank and file has to be in a state.
