Congress Is Going To Try To Limit Presidential Pardons

March 28, 2007

Next up for the Democrats in congress is a house judicial hearing on presidential pardons. All to stop the president from pardoning Scooter Libby. No crime was committed in the Valerie Plame non-outing, so they trapped Libby with a process crime.

Now the Democrats are trying to determine when it’s okay for a president to pardon someone. If I’m not mistaken president Bush has issued very few pardons compaired to other presidents. President Clinton issued many pardons just before he left office without anything being said about it.

The problem here is, at least in the Democrats eyes, that the whole Bush presidency need to be deligitimized. They need Scooter Libby to go to jail, they have somehow made his conviction a referendum on the Iraq war when his conviction had nothing to do with the war. So they are now going to try and tell the president when and whom he is allowed to pardon.

This Congress may become reminiscent of the Andrew Johnson Congress. They will propose, Bush will veto.

I think this Congress will start sounding off for impeachment by the end of the Summer.
