John Edwards Pulls Out Of Second Fox News Debate

John Edwards has for the second time pulled out of a debate on Fox News. He has agreed however to appear on a debate hosted by CNN. CNN has no political leanings, do they? I think we know where CNN stands.
The point is Fox News is the only station that might slant to the right. All other stations slant left. Is Edwards so afraid of his views he won’t appear on a station that slants the other way? If he is afraid to appear on Fox News how can he be trusted to make tough decisions on issues that might not be popular?

This helps with his younger more radical supporters, but will hurt him on Main St. If he can’t take the possibility of Fred Barnes asking him a tough question, I wouldn’t want him in the Oval Office.

If he earnestly believes Fox will distort his positions – and Fox has frequently been shown to have done so with other news content – is truth served by playing their game?
It’s not about avoiding tough questions, it’s about not trusting Fox’s accuracy.

But he has agreed to a CNN debate. Should the Republicans pull out of that debate? We know that slants left.
If they did they would be hammered in the media.

No American network slants either direction as egregiously as Fox does. Watch a little BBC – it’ll help you realize how very much slack the mainstream media in the US cut the President.
I doubt that the Republicans will drop the CNN debate, because they don’t fear that CNN will re-package and mis-characterize their words. Nothing wrong with having a slant – right or left. But the kind of labels that Fox puts on its news coverage are not appropriate for a serious news outlet.

Is it appropraiate for CNN to “accidentally” put an X over Dick Cheney’s face during a speech. Or to “accidentally” cut the audio out on President Bush’s speach about Katrina, and play audio of two woman talking instead. That does not sound like a serious news outlet to me.
As far as cutting the president slack I have five words, Dan Rather and forged documents.
Is that the way a serious news outlet operates.

You’re right, of course, that would not be completely unprofessional.
My point is simply that we do a dis-service to our country when we exaggerate the virtue of our own side or the seeming inconsistencies of the other. Edwards is no monster, nor is any candidate of either party. Choices they make that are different than we would make them don’t make them hypocrites.
Respect, I guess, is a good thing.
