A US Soldier asks “Why has America Abandoned us?”

May 3, 2007

Here is an article written by Gerd Shroeder, he is a Major in the United States army. It is entitled America! Why Have you Abandoned us. It is a heartfelt letter written to the American people, and probably more close to the point America’s politicians. It is an illustration of how the words from our politicians affect negatively our troops who have their lives in danger. It also tells of how they  are emboldening the enemy.

From the Major’s letter:

My fellow Americans; what have the American Fighting men and women done to cause you to abandon them in a foreign land, surrounded by sinister people that are bent on killing them and all Americans?  Are we ignorant that these people, who think nothing of killing men, women, and children of their own race, culture, and religion, will hesitate a moment if given the chance to destroy us, our families, and our freedoms? And they know that the defense appropriations have ended.

That sums it up perfectly, the enemy is willing to kill their own families if necessary to continue the fight and the politicians think if we just leave them alone they will go away. Once they know the date of our surrender they can just sit back and wait.

Why have the halls of Congress and the Whitehouse not been overwhelmed by citizens outraged over the abandonment of our fighting men and women?   Is the silence a sign that shock jocks, and dead playmates are more important to American than our soldiers?

I think I know the answer to this, because as I have said before, Americans have grown soft and weak. America no longer has the courage to fight for what she believes in. It’s sad, but it is definitely true.

The next statement is the one I find the most powerful and breathtakingly haunting one of all, and it reads:

The silence from the people is morale crushing, and a betrayal.  For whatever purpose we believe our soldiers have gone to war, surly abandonment of a hostile, foreign land was not one of them.

That alone should be a wake up call to the people of this country and to our politicians, although it falls on deaf ears. As someone who has sent numerous letters to my Rep., Carol Shea-Porter, I know that my concerns are falling in deaf ears.

If Americans and the politicians would take the time to see how their words affect our soldiers, perhaps they would stop saying the war is lost, perhaps they wouldn’t compare our soldiers to the Soviet gulags, perhaps they wouldn’t compare our soldiers to Pol Pot, perhaps they would treat our soldiers as the heroes they are.

I doubt it though, that wouldn’t help them in their true war, the war to win the white-house.

Digg!

As a Former Marine and Vietnam Veteran the actions of our so called leaders come at no surprise to me. I knew it would happen and I am quite surprised it took this long.

With George Soros puppets controlling the house and senate and the probability of a dem president we are going to be in a “World of Hurt”.

First, thank you for your service to this country. It does look pretty scary when people who don’t have the courage to stand up for our beliefs have control of the country. I still hold out hope a Republican will gain control of the white house.

There is an awful truth behind that letter. I was deployed aboard the USS Enterprise when 9/11 happened, and my battle group (which was on its way home at the time) was turned around and sent back to the Arabian Sea, where we sat for many weeks watching and waiting, not knowing exactly what was happening.

The hardest part about being in a conflict is wrestling with what’s going on back home while you’re half-way around the world fighting for a cause that you believe in.

When 9/11 happened, we were devastated. There was a great deal of dismay throughout the ship, because many of us felt as if we had failed somehow; that we who had sworn to serve and protect our Nation weren’t there when we were needed.

The greatest pick-me-up that we had was the support we received from home. The way the Nation rallied behind us was absolutely awe-inspiring. They made us feel as if we were a solid force standing between evil and home, and we took that task seriously. In October, when we finally started to fight, we fought harder and stronger than I think we could have ever expected, mostly because we had thousands of letters coming in from people back home who were reminding us why we were fighting half-way around the globe.

This is why the current attitude, spearheaded by the dems in congress, pisses me off so much. I cannot fathom how we would have responded out there had we not had the support of our Nation behind us. I can think of nothing worse than to be on the battlefield and get the message from congress that “the war is lost.”

I have to wonder what goes on the heads of these people where they think it’s acceptable to pull their public support for those serving in Iraq under the guise of “things have gone wrong so it’s better to run away than fix the problems and push forward.”

    These people make me sick.

Wow, thanks for sharing that. It’s incredible to me that these people can say they support the troops when you hear some of the things they say.
I am planning on using your comment above in a future post, I hope you don’t mind.
