Wife of Soldier Missing in Iraq Faces Deportation

June 20, 2007

The wife of Army Spec. Alex Jimenez, who is a Massachusetts soldier who is missing in Iraq, faces deportation as she is an illegal immigrant. She came to America illegally three years before marrying Jimenez. Her lawyer is seeking a hardship exemption. He had petitioned the government for a green card for his wife before they were married. His request was how immigration found out she was illegal

I have to believe that the exemption would be granted.

“I can’t imagine a bigger injustice than that, to be deporting someone’s wife who is fighting and possibly dying for our country,” Mr. Kolken told the station.

An immigration judge put a temporary stop to the proceedings since Spec. Jimenez was reported missing. The soldier’s wife is living with family members in Pennsylvania, the station reported.

Here is the whole story.

Wow, that’s a pickle of an issue. I’m not sure what I think of that… On one hand, I’m firm on my stance on illegal immigrants. However, extenuating circumstances sometimes mean exemptions to even my strict rules…

That’s the same reason I didn’t give my opinion on this. I haven’t figured out what it is yet.
