Possible Republican Candidate for Governor of New Hampshire

June 22, 2007

With what appears to me to be more and more New Hampshire residents growing leary of the direction New Hampshire is moving under Governor John Lynch, there have been no opinion polls available recently on the governor’s job approval rating. That’s strange, isn’t it? When he had record high approval ratings I saw many polls, now there are none.

The governor was able to portray himself as a moderate with Republicans in control of the other branches of state government. That is turning out not to be the case now that Democrats control everything here in New Hampshire. He is a liberal and is starting to show his true colors. He was able to keep his rating high by passing legislation that had wide support of the people, now with Democrats in control he is passing unpopular, Massachusetts type legislation. He is sapping us of personal liberties, and his new budget includes many tax increases. I still can’t believe New Hampshire voters fell for this ruse.

So now I think it’s time to look at possible Republican candidates for next year’s election. Thank God New Hampshire’s governor is only elected to two year terms, hopefully we can get this guy out of here before it’s too late. If it isn’t already.

This is an article about Joe Kenney from the New Hampshire Union Leader:

Joe Kenney,  a three term Republican state senator from Wakefield, is just getting started on fundraisers to bankroll a likely run for governor next year.

Kenney tells the Status he will have a fundraiser with a big headliner for his exploratory committee, “Joe Kenney for New Hampshire,” every two months for the rest of the year at least.

The first one is Tuesday at the Raddisson Hotel in Manchester featuring FoxNews military analyst Col. David Hunt. Tickets are $55 plus an additional $20 for a VIP reception.

Kenney, 46, says Hunt has been trying to promote military people for elective office. Kenney is a 27-year Marine now on active reserve and has served in Iraq and the first Persian Gulf War.

He said he is being urged to run by supporters, “I see my party down and out and needing new leadership to come to the fore.”

Concerned about the social changes in the state brought about by the parental notification law repeal and the legalization of civil unions, he said he is “at a crossroads,” and after 14 years in the Legislature will either run for governor or for nothing at all.

Kenney’s committee has a web site promoting him for office but not saying which one.

Kenney’s fundraiser, by the way, appeared on the events section of the newly revamped state GOP web site, which features an online petition asking visitors to tell Gov. John Lynch that he and his Democratic legislative majority have gone “too, far, too fast in changing the social and economic fabric of our state”

I ask all New Hampshire residents who are unhappy with the direction of our state to please go sign the petition at the New Hampshire GOP website. Just click on the link called Too far, Too fast.

Joe is someone we can all unite behind. Every candidate for local office ought to pledge to support him.

It’s a shame that McCain is not helping with visibility by campaigning with him but instead consorting with Lynch, praising him for how he has governed.

When are people going to wake up? It’s bad enough we have no choice at the national level, but to fail to help oust Lynch is unconscionable.

I am excited about Joe, I know I shouldn’t be because of his chances. It aggrivates the hell out of me that McCain not only isn’t helping this man he is hurting him by not showing him some support. Maybe he is trying to woo independent voters by showing them his support for a popular governor.
