Senator Kennedy’s DREAM Act: In-State Tuition for Illegal Aliens
Wrapped into the immigration bill that the senate will vote on this week, and probably pass, is a little thing that Ted Kennedy likes to call the DREAM act. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act. This bill would allow illegal aliens in-state tuition. This is absurd on it’s face.
This bill states that any illegal alien who was brought here as a minor can receive in state tuition if they have a high school diploma, or equvilent. This is just outrageous.
The bill will not allow LEGAL immigrants to have the same priviledge.
So if you play by the rules, come here legally, go through the proper steps, it’s to hell with you. If you break the law to get here, everything is handed to you.
I am a resident of tax free (not for long) New Hampshire who has worked in Massachusetts for 20 years. My wife also.
This, of course, means we have both been paying Massachusetts state taxes for 20 years. I don’t complain about that, I chose to work there, I pay the taxes. If I decided I didn’t want to pay the taxes I would get a job in New Hampshire. Actually, I don’t WANT to pay the taxes, but you know what I mean. Life has choices, I can become employed in New Hampshire if I felt that strongly about paying Massachusetts tax.
Illegal aliens would have the right to pay the in-state Massachusetts tuition rate. If my son decides to go to a school in Massachusetts, guess what, I pay the full rate. How is this justified? Shouldn’t I deserve more of a break having payed Massachusetts taxes all these years? Shouldn’t legal aliens, people who immigrated the proper way deserve a break before these criminals?
This is just another case of rewarding bad behavior. Why should someone come to this country legally when they would have more rights if they break into the country? This is just encouraging people to come here illegally. It makes no sense.
I don’t want special treatment, I only want to be treated like an illegal alien. Is that too much to ask?

Well theres two kinds of DREAM ACT’s federal and state. From reading your blog it seems like you are arguing for the STATE DREAM ACT. The federal DREAM ACT is different. I came to California when I was 5 years old. Let me repeat myself 5 years old. I am 24 years old now and I am on the verge of graduating from college. This federal Dream Act is something I need and any one else in the same position I am.
I have heard it, criminal this and criminal that. Illegal this, Illegal that, it’s practically a black and white issue all over again. With this STATE DREAM ACT it has qualification rules, you know. Don’t assume they will give it out to anybody.
