New Hampshire Tax Protesters in Stand-off With Federal Marshals Part 9

June 27, 2007

Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul has now come out to defend Ed and Elaine Brown. The Brown’s have been holed up in their fortified house since being convicted of tax evasion in January. They say they will come out free or in body bags. There has been no recent activity, just the wait and see game as the feds. hope to get the Browns to surrender.

From wmur.com:

CONCORD, N.H. — Convicted tax evaders Ed and Elaine Brown have gained a new supporter: presidential hopeful Ron Paul.

In an interview with RogueGovernment.com, the U.S. Representative from Texas compared the Browns to Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. He said the Browns are suffering like those leaders.

The Browns are holed up in their Plainfield, N.H., home and have threatened violence against federal officials if marshals come to arrest them. They were convicted of an elaborate scheme to hide millions of dollars in income. Their protest has become a rallying cry for anti-tax activists and militia members.

Ron Paul has seemed to gather quite a cult following, and this can only serve to better it. Comparing the Browns’ to Martin Luther King? Okay.

you obviously did not watch the interview. RP was talking of tax protesters in general (which btw includes Ghandi) not of the Browns in particular. It was the interviewer who tried to apply his words to the concrete case. (of which Paul knows little)
