Audio: Sen John Sununu (R-NH) on Boston Talk Radio, Talk about Immigration Reform

June 28, 2007

New Hampshire Senator John Sununu appeared on the Howie Carr show today.

Sen. Sununu is up for re-election in ’08, and his seat is considered one of the most vulnerable by Democrat officials. Although, he feels pretty confident that New Hampshire will return Republicans back to state government now that New Hampshire is becoming a nanny state and voters may becoming discontent. If that is true it could help him win re-election.

Here is the audio.

Actually, as a “Born here” American Citizen who’s wife was recently deported, and who has seen our immigration law from close up, I’m obviously very much in favor of immigration reform. I’m voting FOR Gregg, and AGAINST Sununu.

Our current immigration laws are positively brutal and mean spirited when applied to Family situations, and the suffering this causes is born not only by Immigrants, but by their American Citizen loved ones, both family and community members.

Most American’s have no idea how our immigration process works, and assume it is a reasonably straightforward, fair and easy to follow process. It is none of the above. In fact, our immigration laws, as currently written are not only brutal, but positively mean spirited and rip families apart for no good reason. Unlike other laws, there is no way of reconciliation with “the system”. No compassion, no way to pay a fine. No way to be forgiven for an infraction.

Furthermore, regardless of what people’s opinion is on immigration, all who deal with the INS (USCIS now) will agree that the process is unreasonably slow and cumbersome. This could and should have been fixed, even if there was no agreement on the larger issues of guest workers etc.

Sununu did a huge disservice to my family with his opposition to immigration reform, and I will be voting against him in 2008.
