British Prime Minister Praises President Bush’s Leadership

July 30, 2007

Over the weekend I read a news story that claimed that the United States was worried that new British prime minister, Gordon Brown, was ready to withdraw from Iraq. I used italics on the words news story because that hardly seems to be the case.

Mr Brown stunned critics by THANKING President Bush for the fight against Islamic extremism, and insisted the UK-US relationship will be his No1 foreign policy priority.

This seems to me to be journalistic malpractice, but with so many news outlets distorting the truth about the Iraq war this is nothing new. As a matter of fact Gordon Brown offered glowing praise toward president Bush for his leadership in the war on terror.

“We acknowledge the debt the world owes to the US for its leadership in this fight against international terrorism.”

Isn’t it great to hear a world leader step up and state something like this? I know it makes me feel proud. He also went on to mention he wanted to strenthen the ties beween our two countries.

The Prime Minister vowed to take Winston Churchill’s lead and make Britain’s ties with America even stronger.

Any time you hear Winston Churchill’s name brought up in conversation, and you hear the British prime minister claim to want to follow Churchill’s lead you have to feel good. I have to admit when Brown took over I was a little leary about it, as you can read here. Today’s meeting with the president though seems to have gone very well and I hope we can count on Britian to remain a steadfast and true ally in the war on terror.

I was truly surprised when I read that article. but I guess political rhetoric and actually having to lead a nation are two different things

Maybe the new PM will be okay after all. I had my doubts, but he is saying all the right things.
