Senator Joe Lieberman Bashes Democrats for Being Naive on Terrorism

July 31, 2007

According to this article from thehill.com Senator Joe Lieberman is once again blasting the Democrats. This time it is on what he says is their naivity or unwillingness to use military force during tough times.

“I think either [Democrats] are, in my opinion, respectfully, naïve in thinking we can somehow defeat this enemy with talk, or they’re simply hesitant to use American power, including military power,” Lieberman said in a wide-ranging interview with The Hill.

“There is a very strong group within the party that I think doesn’t take the threat of Islamist terrorism seriously enough.”

This, in my opinion, is an understatement. Not only do they not think the threat of Islamo-fascists is real, they believe that George W Bush is the biggest threat to the world. They believe George W Bush is the worlds leading terrorist. Maybe the Democrat leadership doesn’t believe this, but their base does, and the leadership has to play to their base.

Lieberman says he is annoyed by the mudslinging on Capitol Hill and Democrats’ unwillingness to work with President Bush.

And all this time we have been told that it is President Bush who will not work with the Democrats. Funny how that works, huh?

“I fear that some people take this position also because anything President Bush is for, they’ll be against, and that’s wrong,” said Lieberman.

That statement is something I have been saying for quite a while. The Democrats wait for the president to take a position, and then they take the opposite position. That is no way to run a country, and is one of the main reasons they must be defeated next year. We have already seen with this new congress that when all you do is oppose, and you have no ideas, and it becomes your turn to legislate, you can accomplish nothing. Can you imagine the looming disaster on the horizon at the very real prospect that a party with no ideas other than to oppose the president is on the verge of winning the presidency?

While I don’t agree with most of Lieberman’s positions, I do agree with him on what I believe is the most important issue, terrorism. The Democrats do take this issue way to lightly, and cannot be trusted with national security in my opinion.

I would love to see Lieberman switch parties, not because I believe in most of his causes, but because of the entertainment value at seeing him sparring with the Democrat leadership, who would then be in the minority.

I too don’t respect Lieberman for much else besides the war but the war is a HUGE issue for me. And I was never so happy to see him win against the psycho liberal in the last election.

I know I shouldn’t be but I’m amazed at how vicious the Daily Kos and others have been towards him because he isn’t towing the anti-war line.
