Hillary Clinton’s Records as First Lady are Being Hidden From the Public

August 14, 2007

As can be read here, Hillary Clinton is being less than generous in releasing documents of her time as first lady that have been requested by people under the Freedom of Information Act

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton cites her experience as a compelling reason voters should make her president, but nearly 2 million pages of documents covering her White House years are locked up in a building here, obscuring a large swath of her record as first lady.

Why can’t we see these documents? What is she trying to hide? Could it be her failed attempt to socialize medicine the first time?

A trove of records has been made public detailing the Clinton White House’s attempts to remake the nation’s healthcare system, following a request from Bill Clinton that those materials be released first. Hillary Clinton led the healthcare effort in 1993 and 1994.

But even in the healthcare documents, at least 1,000 pages involving her work has been censored by archives staff because they include confidential advice and must be kept secret under a federal law called the Presidential Records Act. Political consultants said that if Hillary Clinton’s records were made public, rivals would mine them for scraps of information that might rattle her campaign.

Well, that is convenient, isn’t it? She is hiding behind her husband to assure that documents she doesn’t want released won’t be released. As if it isn’t bad enough that she is campaigning on her husband’s record, she is also hiding behind it.

Clinton’s calendars, appointment logs and memos are stored at her husband’s presidential library, in the custody of federal archivists who do not expect them to be released until after the 2008 presidential election.

This all sounds too suspicious to me. The documents won’t be released to after 2008? Why? I ask again, what is she hiding? There have been over 250 requests for these documents under the Freedom of Information Act, but somehow the process seems to be delayed until after the 2008 election.

George W Bush evokes executive privilege and the leftist and the media have a fit, they accuse him of trampling the constitution, and having an utter disregard of the laws of the country. Yet they are strangely silent on this issue.

“There’s no reason why a load of a few hundred FOIA requests should absorb 11 full-time people perpetually,” Blanton said, referring to requests made under the Freedom of Information Act.

Can you say obstructionism? I can.

Another little publicized aspect of this story is the fact that Hillary Clinton is actually being sued by a group called Judicial Watch for access of these documents.

Not that I want to point out the obvious, but aren’t they supposed to be the party of open government who don’t believe in keeping any secrets?

After all, for the past how many months now have we been hearing about the Dem’s efforts to get every piece of information all the way down to the last email and note scribbled on the back of a used kleenex from the White House? I guess the same sort of scrutiny doesn’t go both ways. After all, Lady Hillary is above all that, isn’t she?

Do you ever get the feeling that she realy believes that she was something of Bill’s Rasputin and that she fears what will happen if the country finds out just what she was up to behind the scenes those eight years? lI have to admit that I am curious, but namely because I think that her Power” was much more imagined than real and that the documents will prove that she may have thought she was running the country (i.e. “WE are the president”) but she actually did nothing more than any other first lady and was of no more importance than Barbara or Laura (and a lot less classy and dignified)

Yes, I thought they were in favor of a more open and honest congress. That must mean being open and honest about what Republicans are up to. We aren’t supposed to worry about what the Democrats are up to, they are doing it for our own good.
As for Hillary’s power while in the whitehouse, I believe the only task she was given was Hillary-care, and she failed. Other than that her duties were typical first lady duties.

You’re probably right, although for how little she did while in the White House, she sure is playing it up like she basically ran the place while Bill was just the front man for her operation. Of course, I’m sure that it’s all in her head, but that won’t stop her from making statements like “we were the president” which is an awefull silly thing to say… I mean, can you imagine Laura Bush standing up and saying “we are the president of this country?” It’s laughable… Too bad Hillary hasn’t figured that out yet.

It is very suspicious indeed. I always thought that if there is nothing to hide no one should worry so much to hide.

This is interesting, is there any of telling what other documents are hidden or protected?
