New Hampshire Woman Fends off Home Intruder with Cardboard Tube

August 18, 2007

This isn’t usually the kind of topic that I post about, but when I read this story I couldn’t help myself.

A man breaks into a 61 year old woman’s house in Chester and begins to raid her jewelry box. Sharon Neville, who is upstairs sewing, hears the noise and runs downstairs with a rather unique weapon of self-defense.

she beat him up with a hard cardboard tube that had materials wrapped around it and chased him out of her house.

Not only that but she got his plate number and police were able to catch him a short time later.

Good for her! Let’s just hope that in today’s day and age the woman isn’t prosecuted for excessive force or assault with a deadly weapon or anything stupid like that. You never know.

Ya know, it’s funny.. I think I have mentioned this before, but if not I’ll point it out again… There is an age range of people in this country that you just don’t want to mess with. While the elderly (although 61 is not really elderly, but no spring chicken either) seem an easy target over younger people, the older “targets” are much more likely to fight back… Like my favorite story a few months back about the retired soldier on a senior citizen’s trip to Costa Rica who killed a guy who stood up their tour bus… I mean, the guy had a gun and this senior citizen put him in a head lock and killed him before he could hurt anybody. It was great.

I think we younger people can learn a thing or two from our seniors. All these years of being told to “roll over and take it” gets us nowhere.
