President Bush Turns the Table on Democrats and Compares the Iraq War to Vietnam

August 22, 2007

One of the mantras we have been hearing from the Democrat party is that the Iraq war is the same as the Vietnam war. Many Democrats have proclaimed that the Iraq war is George Bush’s Vietnam. Today the president turned the table on the Democrats and compared Iraq to Vietnam.

“One unmistakable legacy of Vietnam is that the price of America’s withdrawal was paid by millions of innocent citizens whose agonies would add to our vocabulary new terms like ‘boat people’, ‘re-education camps’ and ‘killing fields’.”

Mr Bush added: “In Vietnam, former allies of the United States and government workers and intellectuals and businessmen were sent off to prison camps, where tens of thousand perished. Hundreds of thousands more fled the country on rickety boats, many of them going to their graves in the South China Sea.”

Needless to say, the Demodrats weren’t too happy with this. This is part of the history of the Vietnam war that the Democrat party is all too willing to forget. When they talk about the comparison between Iraq and Vietnam they conveniently forget what happened when Democrats gave up during the Vietnam war.

The United States had sent a new general to take over command in Vietnam and we seemed to be turning the corner. The Democrats feeling the mounting pressure of the anti-war left finally cut off funding and brought an end to the war just as progress was seeming to be made. Sadly we may be making the same mistake. General Petraeus seems to be turning the tide of the war even as Democrats call for surrender. This is eerily similar to Vietnam.

In this case the Democrats need to stop victory, or any good news for that matter, from happening because they have invested their political capitol in America losing this war. Losing this war is their goal.

Today the president came out and reminded the American people what happened after we surrendered in Vietnam, and what will lie ahead of us if we surrender now. It’s about time.

When it comes down to it, liberal Democrats always end up hurting “the little guy” that they usually always pretend to fight for. We went to Iraq partially because of Saddam’s genocide there. Now, if the Democrats (and others of us who have simply changed our minds) get their way, genocide of innocent Iraqis will continue unchallenged. With that kind of support, who needs liberation?

Not that I’m a big Bush supporter, but I do like the fact that he seems to have taken some control of the situation and is rubbing the democrat’s noses in it. Bush should have done this a long time ago, and I’m not sure if it’s too little too late with the masses, but at least it is something (and not just throwing his hands up in the air and admitting defeat).

I think comparing Iraq to Vietnam was a great plan, considering the striking parallels that can be drawn between the two. After all, in each situation we were put into a position where the “right” thing and the “popular” thing were not in sync, and the government was charged with making some hard decisions. I think that Vietnam should have served as a guidepost to the current congress regarding how that decision should be handled… Yet, they see nothing but their own noses in this whole thing.

    Jay,
Its ironichow the Democrats always hurt the little guy while telling them they are helping them. What’s worse is that the voters don’t seem to realize it. The same is true, as you ponted out, that they are going to hurt the little guy by their change of position in Iraq. Why is it okay to go into Darfur to stop genocide, but in Iraq we have no buisness being there?
    Arclightzero,
I think you are right when you say that Bush should have done this arlier. He allowed the Democrats to say whatever they wanted for too long. They successfully eroded the public support for the war. Who knows what would have happened had Bush fought back. Perhaps support would still have eventually dwindled, but maybe it wouldn’t have reached the level we are at now.

Read down to the very bottom, IT’LL GIVE YOU GOOSEBUMPS!

    VERY INTERESTING-

    1. The Garden of Eden was in Iraq

    2. Mesopotamia, which is now Iraq, was the cradle of civilization!

3.Noah built the ark in Iraq

    4. The Tower of Babel was in Iraq

    5. Abraham was from Ur, which is in Southern Iraq !

    6. Isaac’s wife Rebekahis from Nahor, which is in Iraq !

    7. Jacob met Rachel in Iraq

    8. Jonah preached in Nineveh – which is in Iraq

    9. Assyria, which is in Iraq, conquered the ten tribes of Israel

    10. Amos cried out in Iraq !

11 Babylon, which is in Iraq, destroyed Jerusalem

    12. Daniel was in the lion’s den in Iraq !

    13. The three Hebrew children were in the fire in Iraq (Jesus had been in Iraq also as the fourth person in the Fiery Furnace!)

    14. Belshazzar, the King of Babylon saw the “writing on the wall” in Iraq

    15. Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylon, carried the Jews captive into Iraq

    16. Ezekiel preached in Iraq …

    17. The wise men were from Iraq ..

    18. Peter preached in Iraq .

    19. The “Empire of Man” described in Revelation is called Babylon , which was a city in Iraq !

And you have probably seen this one: Israel is the nation most often mentioned in the Bible.

But do you know which nation is second?

    It is Iraq !

However, that is not the name that is used in the Bible.

The names used in the Bible are Babylon , Land of Shinar , and Mesopotamia … The word Mesopotamia means between the two rivers, more exactly between the Tigris
    And Euphrates Rivers ..

The name Iraq, means country with deep roots.

Indeed Iraq is a country with deep roots and is a very significant country in the Bible.

No other nation, except Israel , has more history and prophecy associated
    With it than Iraq

And also, This is something to think about: Since America is typically represented by an eagle.

Saddam should have read up on his Muslim passages …

The following verse is from the Koran, (the Islamic Bible)

    Koran ( 9:11 ) – For it is written that a son of Arabia would awaken a fearsome Eagle. The wrath of the Eagle would be felt throughout the lands of Allah and lo, while some of the people trembled in despair still more rejoiced; for the wrath of the Eagle cleansed the lands of Allah;

    And there was peace.
    (Note the verse number!) Hmmmmmmm?!

The Vietnam war was, until now, the most humiliating military defeat in American history. Bush has managed an even bigger loss for our country in Iraq.

How is this an even greater loss? Are you seeing something I’m not??

After all, Vietnam war casualties saw 58,209 US deaths and 153,303 US Wounded. Hell, in the worst 4-year stretch (1966-1969) we had 45,504 US deaths.

Or what about the 1.1 million dead North Vietnamese soldiers and 600,000 wounded?

Or the 250,000 dead south Vietnamese soldiers?

Or what about the 700,000 dead Cambodians that dies during the war and the additional 1.5 million that died after we left?

Oh yeah, Iraq is a massive loss compared to Vietnam. I guess when all the numbers are out, I can see how you might mistake Iraq for being worse than Vietnam… It’s all because of Bush, isn’t it? Deaths and casualties mean nothing when compared to the horrors of the Bush Regime, do they?

When are you going to learn that liberals never let the facts or stats get in the way of an argument? 🙂

    Hello,
I noticed that a falsehood of the Koran 9:11 is being passed off on this website. I am not a muslim but I do have a copy of a Koran and this is what surah 9:11 actually says:

“But (even so) if they repent, establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, they are your brethren in Faith: thus do we explain the signs in detail, for those who understand”

Nothing about eagles and war and some sort of coded message that the United States is going to bring peace to the middle east by going to war with the countries in that region.

Before we believe what people say on this internet or anywhere else we need to make sure what they are saying is fact and not a regurgitated fairy tale.

    Shalom b’Yeshua,
    Levi
