The Rocky Mountain Collegian Student Newspaper runs an Editorial Called ” Taser This…FUCK BUSH

September 23, 2007

A college newspaper by the name of The Rocky Mountain Collegian recently ran an editorial entitled “Taser This….FUCK BUSH“. Not only was that the title of the editorial but from what I  have been able to gather by searching the internet that was the whole content of the article.

Ah, doesn’t it make you proud that you are spending your hard earned money to send your children off to an institute of higher learning only to learn that they are being indoctrinated into a radical left wing way of thinking. Not to mention the fact that they can’t even elaborate on their four word editorial to explain the title of their piece?

They are apparently bashing the president because a student was recently tasered at a John Kerry speech. Of course John Kerry did nothing to settle down the situation before it escalated to the proportions that it did. That doesn’t matter, what matters to these people is that George W Bush sucks. That is what they are being taught, that is what they believe.

We can only guess as to why this incident was Bush’s fault as the student who wrote the article didn’t care to elaborate. One can only assume it is because these students have been taught that the war on terror is nothing but an excuse for George W bush to trample the constitution.

Naturally, they are hiding behind free speech to justify their publishing the oh so enlightening editorial.

“I think they went over the line a little bit, but it’s free speech and they’re allowed to write what they want,” one student told 7NEWS.

“We felt it illustrated our point about freedom of speech,” McSwane told 7NEWS. “I think we could write 250 words and ramble on and I don’t think anyone would pay attention.”

“While the editorial board feels strongly with regard to First Amendment issues, we have found the unintended consequences of such a bold statement to be extremely disheartening.”

But sometimes free speech isn’t so free:

The Associated Press Saturday reported the student newspaper has lost $30,000 in advertising and had to cut pay and other budgets by 10 percent because of fallout.

At least the advertisers have put their foot down with regards to the paper and pulles their money. After all that is what it is all about at the end of the day.

So while on one hand, I find it in bad taste for the newspaper to print this so-called editorial, after all there is censorship when it comes to television and newspapers with regard to obsenity, I realize that I was just allowed to print the editorial in it’s entirety without any kind of sensorship, so who am I to bitch? But bitch I will anyway because my point is that there is an ideology being taught in our schools that liberalism is caring, loving, and all knowing, while conservatism is hate filled, fear mongeringy, bigotry. And I ask you, how is an editorial entitled Taser This…FUCK BUSH not hateful? How is it caring? How is it loving? It is pure unadulterated hatred and bigotry towards a different point of view. But the point of view that it is bigoted towards is conservatism and conservatives have no protections under the law. We need to expand hate crime laws to protect us conservatives from the mental beating we take every day.

For an interesting take on the freedom of speech read this post by my good friend arclightzero. In it he says, You have people that are so concerned with the “can I” that they don’t stop and bother to ask the “should I.”  And in my mind that sums it up quite well.

And this is what we get from the right?

I think if you cannot see how the Bush Administration has taken the Country off a cliff, they are building a police state, you now have independent companies such as blackwater and an entirely self funded police force, that keeps the profits when they liquidate your property and assets for dissent against policy. Google it and see what you can find out in terms of the true evidence of simply the police state.

The left is as bad as the right, and their both frustrated with what has happened to America, Bush came in on the heels of scandal, and he’s been caught asleep at the wheel more than enough. The question you must ask… its not uncommon to dislike bush, only about 30% of people do.

If this individual hates bush as he represents alot of the bad policies on things that have caused him to spend a trillion dollars at interest… for a failing war that they fund both sides of… I’d be congratulating him for being abreast of the true nature of his patriotism. When oppressed the people have an obligation to fight back.

The constitution wasn’t put in place because the founders did NOT think people would try to screw you. It’s becoming prudent that people realize, the right and left don’t represent what they did 40 years ago. Dwight Eisenhower taught us this in his final address. Kennedy told us about it before he was shot. Why do we always silence those who don’t take life as status quo, should we not try to understand their reasons instead of assume?

Its not my intention to assume he does have valid reason, there are extremeists out there, but hating bush in relation to “Police State America” isn’t extremist, we look no further than the”Patriot Act”, yet with all these big depts… still didn’tsto 6 nukes from disapearing.

Sit down and ask him to break it all down, you might learn a few good reasons on why hating bush isnt so bad, it might just save america.

For the record, Fuck is the most versatile word in the English language. It fits almost any occassion.

Given Bush’s recent poll numbers, I’d venture to guess that 70% of the country probably agrees with the editorial’s sentiment, if not it’s specific wording. Why you feel a need to characterize that 70% group as “radical left” is beyond me. As is why you feel the need to invent elaborate straw men, relating the issue to Kerry, the war on terror, bigotry, and the kitchen sink, too. You do this all without any evidence that these issues informed to student’s editorial and seem to maintain your point of view based on this factual record that you just invented.

You realize that in a free society, you can just express your view? You don’t have to go around framing other people into positions they don’t necessarily hold. You don’t have to accuse people of bigotry, idiocy, or ideology. If you believe your ideas have merit, you can share them without polemic and hope that they hold they day.

If, on the other hand, you find yourself sharing opinions and the vast majority of your peers (see 70% above) still disagree with you, a little distance and self-reflection can be a very healthy thing. If nothing else, at least go back and look a what a tailspin a four word editorial put you in and ask yourself if you really have a healthy relationship with free and open discourse.

If you really want to irritate the right wing, why not “FUCK JESUS”?

Bush followers are bad enough, but Jesus’ followers are worse.

As a student at CSU I will say this. It was just a dumb ass editorial. I don’t see why people give a damn about it. There was another article with cursing not to long ago in the same paper, however it recived none of this hooplah.

This was in refrence to an incident with Kerry, and over zealous police officers and one loud mouth student at another university. So this article is really just a shock peice that worked.

People really shouldn’t give a fuck.

Freud, I don’t think it is a stretch to mention Senator Kerry in this post. What do you think the Taser This part of the editorial came from just a week after the incident in Florida where Kerry did nothing to stop someone from being tasered because his freedom of speech led him to a question that Kerry didn’t like?

Would I hire him in my newsroom? Not a chance. Not because he’s an inarticulate freak. Not because his vocabulary seems woefully limited. Not because he’s apparently incapable of original thought. Not because he’s a heckler who prefers to stand at the back of the crowd and shout profanity instead of leading a crowd to a positive conclusion. Not because he’s heckling Bush (I’d feel the same if it was Hillary or Obama.) Not because he showed disrespect for his publisher and his community. Not because he can’t seem to surrender his knee-jerk politics to the greater purpose of writing wisdom.

But because he seems to have no ability to step back from his narcissism and say something that’s worth the price of ink and dead trees. This masturbatory little punk put himself first, not his readers.

I won’t consume any more of your bandwidth. I blogged more fully about this at Under The News
