Charlie Gibson Admits Good News is No News in Iraq

October 18, 2007

One item from Baghdad today.  The news is… that there is no news.  The police told us that, to their knowledge, there were no major acts of violence.  Attacks are down in Baghdad and today no bombings or roadside explosions were reported.

That comment was made by Charlie Gibson on World News Tonight on ABC. What I find telling about this comment is how it shows us his liberal bias. We all knew it existed, but he let it slip out into the open with that comment. How else can you explain the fact that he believes that no attacks in Baghdad is no news? This IS news, it is good news. Good news being bad for the left has to go unreported, hence no news. God forbid that Charlie Gibson actually reported that violence is down, that statement actually looks as though he is saddened by the fact there is no violent news to report.

If all were right in this country, the fact that violent attacks are down would be reported as news, not thought of as no news. But the fact that we are hearing reports that the tide is turning in Iraq, and that is bad for Democrats, the media, including Charlie Gibson, has to downplay this so-called no news in order to protect the Democrat party.

That statement is a perfect example of the liberal bias shown by the public relations branch of the Democrat party, known as the mainstream media.

I think that it comes down to their definition of “news” differs from our definition of “news”. Now most people will say news is news right?

Keep in mind these are the same people that nodded sagely at Bill Clinton asking “what the definition if is is”.

News to the media is just another tool, and an exceptionally powerful one, to push their agenda. Why else are over 90% of journalists registered Democrats?

Whats sad is that so many do not even see their own bias and obvious agenda.

And believe me my friends, the bad guys are watching our election process very closely and praying to Allah that a Socialist(D) gets the White House. In earlier times, these people would be tried for treason and then shot in the street.

We knew these radical Socialist were coming though. Those hippies have just showered, completed college and now are pushing the same agenda they were in the 60’s.

Well said. I’d just add that at best, this is an example of the old saw, “If it bleeds it leads.” However, it goes beyond that – perhaps the dearth of attacks doesn’t need to lead, but it should constitute news. Then, there’s the question of why not report other positive news, like the community rebuilding activities our increasingly less-battle-engaged troops are conducting.

Are you so sure that Charles Gibson meant it in the spirit you suspect him of saying it? I realize his background, which includes protesting during the Vietnam War. But the way this reads, it sounds like he’s driving home the point that this IS news, and it’s significant enough to mention about. If it weren’t news, he would not have brought it up at all.

When it comes to what’s “right in this country”, the leftard biased media is not it.

Great news indeed, shame it isn’t top news. But apparently some idiot magician and his alleged affair is more important.

Wordsmith, I heard the comment played on the radio yesterday and I believe I have acurately potrayed his conjecture. I wanted to post the audio clip but was unable to find it.

Deb, there was a huge sigh here. Inbetween the news is, and there is no news he sounded let down.
