Baby Survives Two Abortion Attempts and is Born Healthy

November 3, 2007

This story is disturbing to me, but the end result was a good one. I could never even try to understand the decision that these parents had to make. Most readers here know that I am pro-life and believe abortion is wrong. I also believe that Roe vs Wade should be overturned as this would not outlaw abortion. This would simply send abortion back to the states and the individual states could then decide on whether to allow abortion or not.

This is the story of an expecting mother of twins whom the doctors told that one of her babies was unhealthy and would die in the womb of a heart attack. They also told her that if the one baby died it could kill the other one.

Mrs Jones said: “They told us that if he died, it could be life threatening for his brother.

“We had to decide whether to end his life and let his brother live, or risk them both.”

They said it would be impossible to keep him alive afterwards as he was so poorly.

It would be kinder to let him die in the womb with his brother by his side than to die alone after being born.

The parents made the heart wrenching decision to abort the one baby. I say baby because this was at 25 weeks pregnant. This was not a fetus, I know the pro death crowd believes a fetus isn’t a baby but this was a living, kicking baby. The doctors tried to kill the baby, however the baby was uncooperative.

The part of this story that is really disturbing to me is the way they tried to abort this baby. It’s bad enough that late term abortions birth the baby half way and then slice the baby’s spinal cord, but at least that is quick, which wasn’t what these doctors had in mind.

At Birmingham Women’s Hospital, when Mrs Jones was 25 weeks pregnant, doctors tried to sever Gabriel’s umbilical cord to cut off his blood supply and allow him to die.

But the cord was too thick, and they could not cut through it.

They tried to cut the cord to let him die from lack of blood slowly. This is humane? When that didn’t work they tried another procedure.

As a last resort they divided Mrs Jones’s placenta so that when Gabriel died, it would allow Ieuan to survive. Mrs Jones said: “I put my hands on my stomach thinking of Gabriel. It was devastating. I had said my goodbyes.”

This to me is unbelievable. I don’t understand how a doctor in good conscience decide that killing a baby slowly is a decent and noble idea. I am at a loss for words. The other thing I don’t understand is this: if the baby dieing inside the womb from natural causes would possibly kill the other baby, then how come the doctors killing the baby inside the womb would not?

Gabriel hung on, and his enlarged heart started to reduce in size. He also gained weight.

The baby managed to hang on to life for another five weeks until the doctors delivered both babies caesarean section. Now the doctors are trying to take credit for saving the life of the baby they tried to kill.

Mrs Jones said: “They thought it may be because the placenta had been divided. Inadvertently, it had evened out the distribution of nutrition between them, allowing Gabriel to survive.’

Both babies are now perfectly healthy and doing well. Just look at this picture below and think to yourself that one of these babies would be dead if the doctors had succeeded in what they wanted to do.

    Great Story!

When will we learn as a nation that life is precious and there is no excuse to kill unborn babies.

For the rest of the parents lives, everytime they look into their childs eyes they will have the memory in their mind, “I tried to kill you”… that is a heavy burden to carry…

wow, that is a hell of a story. Kind of inspiring, but as you said, very disturbing that any doctor would think that this was something that was acceptable. Is this the attitude of “an unborn child is not a human being” coming through? After all, even prisoners on death row have to get humane treatment when it comes to being executed… Why would it be acceptable to kill an unborn child in an inhumane way? … Unless of course you don’t believe that it is a person.

This is such a heartwarming story. If I had time I would’ve talked about this on the radio show this morning.

On a side note, the article that I used for this post allowed comments to the article. All the comments that were posted talked about what a great heartwarming story this is. And it is, it is truly an unbelievable story. But I can’t get past the way the doctors thought it was ethical to try and kill this baby slowly over several hours. I mean, they told the mother that if one baby dies it could possible be fatal to the other baby, then they tried to kill this baby, how would that not be fatal to the other baby if the doctors were telling the mother the truth. I think they were manipulating the mother in order to achieve the desired result the doctors had.
Anyway, I left a comment to the article that was critical of the doctors, but I didn’t go overboard. My comment was not approved and never appeared on the site. Once again proving that if you disagree with the liberal media, your opinion doesn’t count.
