Wake Up America Endorses Mitt Romney
Cross posted on Grizzly Groundswell
I have finally made my choice for president and will now make my endorsement for president, for whatever it’s worth. Hey, newspapers still endorse candidates, and they no longer carry the weight they used to, so why not try my hand at endorsing a candidate?
This is a crucial election for our country’s future. I have been undecided about who I would vote for until very recently. There is much at stake in 2008, from the Democrats trying vigorously to turn our government into a socialist form of government, all the way to the Democrats ignoring the threat of Islamo-fascism even in the wake of September 11th. It is for these reasons that I have remained undecided for so long. But not any more. With just over a week to go to the New Hampshire primary, I have made my choice.
I had narrowed the field down to three candidates; Mitt Romney, Tom Tancredo, and Duncan Hunter.
Tom Tancredo made the choice slightly easier once he dropped out. My choices then were narrowed down to two, naturally. But then Tom Tancredo endorsed Mitt Romney, and that is when I made my final decision.
Tancredo identified former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and Arizona Sen. John McCain as two Republican candidates whose records indicate they wouldn’t be tough enough on immigration.
“On the other hand, you talk about what’s happened in Arkansas, it’s a totally different situation, and certainly John McCain has built a career in Congress being a supporter of illegal immigration and amnesty,” Tancredo said.
Tancredo said he and Romney met Thursday for more than an hour and he left the meeting convinced that the former Massachusetts governor would do what’s necessary to fight illegal immigration.
“He is the best hope for our cause,” Tancredo said.
Immigration, the war on terror and national defence are the biggest issues to me. Actually they are all one issue in my book, they are woven together to form one big issue. How can we be fighting the war on terror abroad, and yet leave our borders wide open to people who have already successfully made it over here? This is the reason that I was looking at Hunter and Tancredo in the first place, once Tancredo made his decision, I made mine. I almost feel as though Tancredo was only in the race to shed light on immigration and once he did that he decided he could bow out.
The final decision came down to electability. Once I was down to two candidates, that became the deciding factor. Much like a Mike Huckabee nomination would secure a Democrat president in the general election, so to would a Duncan Hunter nomination. So in the end, I had to go with Mitt, even though I do like Duncan Hunter.
I do believe that Mitt Romney would run rings around Hillary Clinton in the debates, and hopefully expose her. Although she has been exposed before and the voters don’t seem to care.
Mitt Romney will be a fiscal conservative, he will cut government programs before he would increase spending, and that is another reason I am going to vote for him. As a successful businessman, he understands the importance of limiting spending and maximizing profits. I believe he will use this knowledge to cut spending, make the Bush tax cuts permanent and downsize the federal government.
In a time when family values are being eroded, and parental rights are being threatened, Mitt Romney talks about strong family values, but he does more than talk, he lives by strong family values.
I believe that Mitt Romney will be a strong leader in a time where leadership will be desperately needed.

Excellent! I’m sure you will be happy with the Romney administration. Much will be accomplished – if Mitt is one thing, he’s a ‘get it done’ guy and that is critically important when we have challenges such as immigration, national security, social security solvency, taxes, and many more. He will fight for strong conservative values and recognizes the need for a strong America first.

CNBC said the Romney would be good for business and investors. Seeing that we might be in a recession this year that might improve his chances of being elected. His business track record including saving the winter olympics is a strong selling point.

Electability was the decisive criterion for your decision?
You do realize that Romney has neither a base nor a natural constituency. He cannot even carry his home state, nor could he be elected as governor in his home state were he to run on the issues that he runs on now. Further: the man not only cannot run on his record, he has to run *against* his own record because of all his policy reversals on e.g. guns, abortion, gays, our policy in Iraq, immigration, taxes, the Reagan legacy. The list goes on.
Romney has spent US$80 million dollars since Jan 1, 2007 on his campaign, and about US$20 million of his own funds on the ground in IA and NH. Yet Romney slumps in the national polls and is fighting for his political life against 2 underfunded, un-organized maverick candidates. So is Romney electable?—probably not, because even Romney doesn’t have the money to do to the entire US what he did to IA and NH, i.e. saturate their media markets with his advertising.
Just today Romney chastised Gov. Huckabee for criticizing Pres. Bush’s management of the Iraq war, and in another interview criticized Pres. Bush for his management of the Iraq war.
And then there’s Romney’s negative campaigning …
Anyway, whateverz. The leadership we get will be the leadership that we deserve. I just hope you’re a better judge of character in your command.

Romney’s state of MA is 85% democrates, 13% republicans. He will not carry MA in the general. I don’t know of any candidates that haven’t done some reversals over their careers. I don’t have any friends that haven’t reversed themselves on one or another political stance and like you of course.
dotan,
You need to read less from liberal MSM or just don’t take them so seriously. They are way too liberal. It’s like people who are adamant about what they think is true about Mormons from anti-Mormon writers–who’re in it for the Money . And anything anti-Mormon sales big. You give some Christians (and others too) what they WANT to think or believe about anything and you’ll make a very lucrative living, even though it’s filthy lucre

Great decision. I too have decided to support Romney. I have followed up on the flip-flopping charges and have found them to wrong. Romney has changed his mind on the most effective way to institute policies; however he has never flopped to go back to an original choice. His policies are exceptionally consistent and made based on logic, not emotionally driven populism.
He is very valued centered based on his family life and how he has handled his business dealings. He is careful to not have any business dealings that have any appearance of looking unethical.
He did not accept gifts; he did not take a salary from the state of Mass or the Olympics. He donates generously. He gave his inheritance that he received from his father to charity.
It will be refreshing to have some one in the White House who won’t embarrass the American People with his moral turpitude and be above any ethics violations.
Yes Romney is a leader; and he gets things done. I can’t wait for him to clean up Washington.

That’s it….throw out the best candidate? You’re going to get the same kind of border security/immigration that Mitt had in Mass. In other words….NONE.
I’ll go with the guy with the proven record.
DUNCAN HUNTER
Did you know Mitt and his family still have a trust for their China $$$ coming from Bain Capital?
Expect more globalism/unfair trade with China with Mitt.
Perhaps that’s what you want?

Glad you came on board the Mitt Train. I have been a Mitt supporter from the beginning. My main support comes from his financial background. Everything he touches turns to gold. For all the Mitt haters out there….. Don’t let the media, bigots or short sightedness blind you to a great candidate. Mitt has been successful in EVERYTHING he has ever done.

By my count, I have 6 comments for my pick and 4 against it. That’s another example, a very small example, of how close this race could turn out. That’s what makes this interesting.

A loss to Huckabee in Iowa (after leading by huge margins for so long); a loss in NH to McCain (after leading by huge margins for so long… All we can hope is that a drubbing in SC and FL will get Romney out of the race. He is the most disingenuous candidate on the Republican side. I just can’t believe how many have fallen for his metamorphis.

And still the Romney media machine (and his not so objective supporters like Sean Hannity) are beating the drums in favor of a Romney presidency. Too bad. There is so much material available proving that the “Massachusetts Miracle” is hogwash… as is Romney’s sudden conversion to the pro-life view.

The recency of his arrival to a position I hold is not to be held against him. In a time when “change” is the mantra that is being thrown around, why are we supposed to be against someone who has changes his positions. Shouldn’t it be admirable that someone could look at his beliefs and realize that he may have had a change of heart and admit he was wrong? My political beliefs are drastically different at 40 than they were at 20, does that mean I flip-flpped?

A lifetime of saying one thing that suddenly changes when you decide to run for president is certainly something to be leery of. Mitt Romney is an unrepentant panderer who’ll say anything to get the vote. And he continues to try to hide the truth from the American people, just like his recent faux pas:
“Like millions of members of my faith, I didn’t get to know President Hinckley on a very, uh, personal one-to-one basis,” Mr. Romney said. ‘Instead I knew him as a member of my church and saw him as a leader of great capacity, of great ability to reach out and touch a large number of people with a very personal and human connection.”
Mr. Romney failed to mention that he also met with Mr. Hinckley in November 2005 to ask his advice about a possible run for president, a meeting reported in Sunstone, a Mormon magazine. When asked about that meeting, Mr. Romney played it down.
