Mitt Romney Wins in Michigan, Now the Race is on

January 15, 2008

First, we had Iowa Republicans screw up and vote for a liberal RINO in Mike Huckabee, a man who uses religion as a means to spread a liberal socialist agenda through his great compassion. A terrible decision by the voters of Iowa.

Second, we had my state, New Hampshire, screw up and vote for a liberal, illegal alien amnesty granting, tax raising, GITMO closing, provider of constitutional rights to non American terrorist killing bastards, conservative judge halting, free speech killer, John McCain. The small bright side to the idiocy of New Hampshire’s voters is that this vote slowed down Huckabee’s momentum. If Huckabee somehow won New Hampshire he would have rolled into South Carolina on Saturday as a favorite, and that is beyond astonishing.

So, McCain takes New Hampshire and moves into Michigan where the polls showed him getting a bounce and in a close race with Mitt Romney. Mitt Romney won the non-evangelical conservative Republican vote in Iowa by a margin of three to won. Mitt also won the Republican vote in New Hampshire, but lost the Independent vote. John McCain doesn’t poll well with Republicans, so his base seems to come from Independents. Independents who are by definition not conservative. Mitt Romney proceeds to handle McCain easily in Michigan and is now back in the mix. At least as far as the media is concerned. The media kept portraying Michigan as being a must win for Romney even though he was the Republican delegate leader. They ignored the fact that Romney has been the leading candidate among conservatives.

Thank you Michigan for getting this one right. Michigan conservatives voted for Romney over McCain by double digits, just as trends have indicated they would. This was an important primary because if McCain had pulled this out he would have headed to South Carolina with momentum, and that would have been disastrous. Now we have Fred Thompson making his stand in South Carolina, a state where Huckabee appears to be doing well. Huckabee needs to be stopped now, I think this is Huckabee’s last stand, if he loses South Carolina it will end his campaign. I hope.

I, as a Mitt Romney supporter, hope that this win will give him a bump and help propel him to a victory in South Carolina. From there, it’s on to the white house.

Thompson could very well take South Carolina, Rudy could pull out a victory in Florida, and then it is on to super Tuesday. We have had two caucuses and two primaries. We have had three winners, with Romney being the only candidate to win twice. No candidate seems to be a clear front-runner.

 The race is on.

The race is on and I couldn’t agree with you more about Iowa, New Hampshire and Michigan. I was so relieved that Romney won Michigan.

Yep, things are about to get interesting. We have three wins for three candidates who couldn’t be more different from one another. This really opens the GOP race wide to anything – including an unexpected upset.

While the race intrigues me, it worries me too, because if the dems get a front runner and we don’t get one until the bitter end, they will have a tactical advertising and promotion advantage over us already…

    Ryan,
Being divided is a concern but ending up with an inferior nominee would be devastating for our side.

If Thompson wins SC and Romney places second, it still is a good position for Romney. He has garnered more votes total than any other candidate. The media seems to hate him for some reason. I have no idea why. But he gets such negative coverage, even from Fox. I am a Mitt Romney supporter from Day 1. Actually from before day one. I said three years ago I wanted him to run.
    Go Mitt Go!!

Ron, the media hates him because he is a conservative they think has a real shot to win. They like McCain and Huckabee because they are liberals, and in their minds even if McCain or Huckabee were able to win the whitehouse they would take comfort in knowing that at least they were liberals.
That may be true Ryan, but I think Dee also make a good point. If it takes us a little longer to get a stronger candidate than Huckabee or McCain it should be worth more in the end.

I have heard hints of these things, but I’m saying it….. McCain is done, Huckabee is done, Rudy has nothing to be done with, a bounce for Mitt? Puh-lease. Get used to saying President Romney. (but I still hope Fred wins SC)

Dee, you’re right, and inferior candidate would be devastating to say the least. But if we get caught up too much in internal squabbling for too long in this process, we risk looking like a bunch of disorganized ninnies in the eyes of the undecided voters who will already be seeing the dems fielding their nominee. That could prove to be fatal.

Oh, and as for the media… The media hates conservatives. Plain and simple. The more conservative a person is, the more they’re going to work against them. That’s why Huck and McCain are media darlings.

How Can any conservative vote for Romney?

He was listed as one of the top ten Republicans in Name Only by Human Events Magazine.

What will he be after the primary?

And would he be another George Bush if he gets elected?
