Barack Obama’s Global Poverty Bill Put on Hold in the Senate

February 26, 2008

obama02071.jpg Barack Obama’s global poverty bill has thankfully been stalled in the senate by two conservative Republicans. You probably haven’t heard too much about this bill in the mainstream media. The only place I have even seen it mentioned was in this post at Pro Patria.

Ryan, from Pro Patria, wrote in his post on February 13th that Obama’s global poverty bill could result in the United States paying a global tax to the UN. He also quoted a member of the UN who said the United States would be FORCED to pay the UN this tax.

This has been at least postponed by conservatives in the senate. Thank God. But it won’t go away, we need to stay on top of this and make sure it goes away forever. This bill was being fast tracked through the senate because of how dangerous it really is.

Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media, a conservative media watchdog, said S. 2433 has been getting “a pass” from Congress. It received absolutely no scrutiny in the House last fall, when it was passed on a voice vote, and no scrutiny last week in the Senate, when the Foreign Relations Committee also passed it on a voice vote.

This would commit hundreds of billions of additional money from the United States and that money would have to come from somewhere. Any guesses who would lose out here? Working Americans.

As Ryan had written on his blog, a global tax would most likely be imposed on the United States, the same country that already gives more money for humanitarian efforts across the globe than any other country. Here is another article that implies the same thing.

“The bill doesn’t specifically mention a global tax,” Kincaid said. “No one is suggesting that Sen. Obama has officially called for the imposition of a global tax. But the inevitable result of passing this bill would be to bring on or to encourage a global tax – no question about it.”

There you have it, Obama hasn’t officially called for a global tax, but it is the only possible way to pay for this monstrosity of a bill.

The reason that I say this bill is gone but not forgotten is the very real, and most likely, possibility that we will have Barack Obama as president, with a large majority of Democrats in the house and senate. Under this scenario the bill would come back and would most likely pass, costing the United States middle class, working stiffs like me and you billions of tax dollars.

Not even “a wildly liberal Congress,” he said, would voluntarily vote for hundreds of billions more in foreign aid to fight global poverty, but a global tax, if it is “sold” for that purpose, might be more acceptable.

That line is priceless, just think about it. A Democrat congress might not be sold on the idea of committing billions of dollars in aide, but just call it a tax and they are on board. Democrats never saw a tax they didn’t like. Perfect!

If you Democrats out there think that Barack Obama cares about you, think again. If he has his way, working Americans will be paying taxes to provide health-care to people who are too lazy or apathetic to work for or buy their own insurance. Working Americans will be paying taxes to provide health-care to illegals who don’t belong in this country in the first place. Working Americans will be paying taxes to provide free tuition to illegals to attend college while Americans who weren’t able to go to college work to provide college for people who don’t belong here. Now we must pay more taxes to help the poor in other countries when we already send billions overseas to help them.

If you think Democrats care about the middle class, think again. If you think the Democrats oppose and want to tax the rich, you are half right. The only problem is that if you work for a living the Democrats think you are rich. If you work for a living you need to be taxed to support this Utopian, Robin Hood, socialistic society that the Democrats believe in.

This is Barack Obama’s vision of America, this is the Democrat’s vision of America, this is the liberal’s vision of America. If you think there is no other issue in this election than the Iraq war, think again. America’s future is at stake in this election. America is at stake in this election. Under Barack Obama the middle class will be wiped out. It is time to stand up, it is time to end this madness.

Americans deserve to keep their own hard earned money. I know how radical that must sound to liberals, but it is true.

I think all us middle class workers should up and quit if Obama gets elected. We could call it a “tax strike” and see how the government likes it.

You call it “Obama’s Bill”, but Chuck Hagel is a co-sponsor. The GOP is just as guilty of these constitution-busting boondoggles. Obama wants to engage in charity at my expense for the greater good of minkind, while the GOP wants to show their Christian spirit at my expense!

I am quite fed up! As an independent, I say a curse on both their houses.
