California Legislator Proposes a 1500% Increase on the Beer Tax
A California lawmaker has proposed raising the tax on a can of beer from 2 cents a can to 30 cents a can. This amounts to a 1500% increase in the tax on beer. Now it looks like this bill has absolutely no chance of going anywhere and looks to be dead on arrival, but I want to look at the justification for the proposed increase.
“The people who use alcohol should pay for part of the cost to society, just like we’ve accepted that concept with tobacco,” Beall said.
The justification is taken from the fact that Americans have “accepted” the cigarette taxes. I don’t think it has been accepted, rather it has been forced down smoker’s throats. Lawmakers know that people who are addicted to tobacco will pay anything to smoke so they screw them over every chance they get.
Now they are going after another behavior that they don’t approve of. But this won’t be the end of it. They will keep taxing what they consider to be bad behavior. Non-smokers laughed at smokers because it didn’t affect them, but it isn’t going to stop there and this is further proof.
Keep laughing, sooner or later they will come after a habit or a hobby or a behavior that you enjoy. It won’t seem so funny then. You won’t be laughing any more.

Well, they lost the gun thing so they’ve got to try something else. “The people who use alcohol…”? who doesn’t? I can’t remember the last time I met a tee-totaler. Do you know any? Keep trying, Nanny, we’ll keep fighting it.
