President Bush Signs the Mortgage Bailout Bill…..in Private

July 30, 2008

Today President Bush signed the mortgage bailout bill thereby throwing the burden of paying off the mortgages of the people who had no business having mortgages in the first place right into the laps of hard working, tax paying Americans. Can I be the first to stand up and say thank you? Yes thank you because now on top of paying my own mortgage additional money that used to belong to me will be going to pay for someone else’s mortgage. Thanks allot!

President Bush was so proud of this accomplishment that he signed it……in private. He then emailed the announcement after the fact. What a cowardly thing to do. President Bush knew that this bill was opposed by those of us who still support him so instead of standing up and saying “this is what I believe, and I am going to sign the bill”, he chose to just sign it and hope nobody noticed. This is the exact type of behavior I have grow accustomed to in New Hampshire from my governor, John Lynch. I do not let him get away with it here, so I will not let the president get away with it here either. At least when he tried to screw us on the illegal immigrant amnesty bill he had the guts to come forward and state his position.  Why then didn’t he do the same on this bill? Because maybe he really doesn’t support it. But then why would he sign it? It seems to me that President Bush is looking for a victory, any victory in his last few months as president and he wanted to at least be able to put this “victory” under his belt.

Let’s face it, his second term has been nothing to write home about, he almost gave amnesty to illegals (and still supports the idea) and he has been able to get nothing done. And now this. The only thing that he has been able to do is hold of the surrender in Iraq, and who knows, he is now talking about a “time-line horizon”, maybe that’s coming next month.

So now in a desperate attempt to try to gain a little in national approval ratings he risks losing the few remaining conservatives who are still behind him in order to gain in the polls with the Democrats. (Sounds like McCain). Why else would he sign a bill sponsored by Chris Dodd, and of all people, Barney Frank?

I am finding it harder and harder to defend this man and I have been one of his staunchest defenders for almost eight years (almost two years here), but I am finding it difficult to hide my growing displeasure with President Bush. He is suddenly more worried about the polls than doing what is right, and that is the opposite of what I liked about him. He seemed to do what he thought was right even though it hurt him in the polls. In this respect he sounds more like a Democrat. He has just signed the largest bailout in history. That definitely sounds more like a Democrat.

I think I might be feeling a little Bush Derangement Syndrome coming on. Somebody call the doctor, I don’t feel so well.

What’s that? You don’t like taking responsibility for the failures of your deregulation policies that caused this fiasco in the first place? That makes sense. Republicans haven’t stood for responsibility in a long time.

I spend a lot of time reading the blogs, tangents and tit-for-tat conversations that occur on your website. I never really comment, more feed on the info, but this is a subject that has really pissed me off as of late. JC, it is not about taking the responsibility for deregulation policies that makes me angry. It is the fact that now I, as a responsible home owner, tax and mortgage payer I also have to except to the responsibility of the degenerates that jumped into the pool without even the thought of learning how to swim.

If I had any less self respect for myself I would stop paying my mortgage now and let the banks/government come rescue me too haha.

    Just my two cents…
