Nancy Pelosi to Offer Bill that Would Allow Offshore Drilling

August 16, 2008

According to this article it appears as though Nancy Pelosi is ready to offer a bill that will expand offshore oil drilling when the house returns from recess. All the politicians seem to be scrambling to support filing legislation after years of opposing it. John McCain was the first to flip-flop on this issue, followed by President Obama, and now Nancy Pelosi.

Either Nancy Pelosi is feeling pressure from her constituents since she returned home or she is upset by the good press that Republicans have gotten by refusing to stop debating the issue even after Pelosi turned the lights out on them and adjourned the session. Or both.

The timing to me is very suspect, just before the elections Pelosi is going to bring forward a bill that would expand offshore drilling? It leads me to believe that the American people are demanding that congress do something. That includes drilling, a position that the Democrats have opposed for years because of environmental concerns. Funny how environmental concerns are trumped by the desire to stay in office, isn’t it? Suddenly when faced with angry constituents the environment doesn’t seem so important to this group of politicians who are in the back pocket of the environmental groups.

Americans rose up when President Bush, John McCain, and Ted Kennedy tried to grant illegal aliens amnesty and they stopped that bill. Now Americans appear to be doing the same when it comes to oil drilling. It seems the threat of losing power has various former anti-drillers suddenly willing to drill.

It is great to watch what Americans can do when an issue unites the people, or a majority of the people, and demand that the politicians take action. This is just such an issue.

Paul and Nancy Pelosi bought two properties from the Joseph E. Seagram liquor company in 1999

Unit 214 at 3030 K Street is now in Paul Pelosi’s name only

    but

Unit 119 that both the Speaker and her husband bought is now owned again by the liquor company and the Joseph E. Seagram liquor company is using the same address of the THE PAUL AND NANCY PELOSI CHARITABLE FOUNDATION and THE PAUL PELOSI FAMILY TRUST

Interesting info on Pelosis. THe bill, is it going to cover the area that makes sense, the one with the small footprint, or the other area which would require much more work, money and red tape to actually get oil out of the ground? Sorry I can’t remember specifics right now, point is, I don’t trust her either, as illustrated above.

This is yet another example of why the congressional democrats are spineless.

Did I not say that Big Oil was going to get their way in the end?

Any bill will be so loaded with ridiculous regulations and fees and such that it will be a waste of paper to print it. Might as well surrender to mother Russia now, which is what Pelosi, Kennedy, Obama and the rest really want. After all, “Winston loved Big Brother.”

Yes you did Terrant, but I really don’t believe anything will happen with this. The Democrats will delay taking action until after the Election and once Obama is in office you can forget about drillin, regardless of what he says now. THe same wouldapply to McCain also but there is no way in hell he is ever going to be elected.

Don’t be so sure they are serious. They may go ahead and pass this bill while the Senate will pass a similar bill with just enough differences for it to get stuck in committees until after the election- after which both bills will die from neglect.

TT, that is the most likely scenario. I don’t think this is ever going to go anywhere, Democrats are simply going to stall this until after the election and then drop the issue.

If the democrats try to stall, the republicans are going to yell and scream. If, as you predict, Obama wins, Big Oil is going to want to get the legislation passed and signed before January so that the contracts can be with the Bush administration.

The key reason being is that I am sure that Cheney will make sure that they get the same type of deal that they got in previous leases in that it will allow them to avoid paying royalties.

Hey, right-wing tools: Well, we’ve finally been told it’s the speculators – something thinking people (a minority to be sure) have known all along: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/08/20/AR2008082003898_pf.html
And, the incredible amount of money available for “investment” in commodities clearly shows how wrong the tax cuts and failure to collect taxes has been for this country. This money has been transferred from workers to the capitalists in the past 10 years or so, who are now speculating on yet another bubble. Until, we start closing loopholes and collecting taxes from these parasites, we will continue to wither.
