Republican Platform to Include Global Warming Plank

John McCain has a problem. His problem is with conservatives, they don’t like him. He is too interested in winning the votes of moderates and pissed off Hillary Clinton voters and not interested in shoring up the conservative Republican base. He is continuing to give us the proverbial middle finger. But now it seems as if the problem that conservatives have with McCain night go deeper than just McCain himself.

The whole party is shifting to the left, becoming more like the Democrats. There is no greater example of this than the fact that Republicans are going to add a global warming plank to their national platform.

The Republican platform may include a first-ever plank on global warming, an examination of a draft document indicated.

“Increased atmospheric carbon has a warming effect on the Earth,” The Hill reported the draft document as saying. “While the scope and long term consequences of this warming effect are the subject of ongoing research, we believe the United States should take measured and reasonable steps today.”

The old saying goes, if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em, well I would rather lose clinging to my beliefs than win by compromising them. That is what is wrong with the Republican party of today. They are so blinded by the need to try to hold on to what remaining power they have that they are abandoning their beliefs. If you are so willing to abandon your beliefs than you have none.

So while Republicans move to the left in an attempt to gain moderate voters, they are abandoning those of us who have for so long defended them. The conservative voters will not forget this. Conservatives are already cold to the idea of John McCain as the pary’s nominee, and when they see that the Republicans have adopted another of the Democrat’s national party planks it will infuriate them even more.

This liberal infestation in the Republican party must stop, perhaps losing big in November is what the Republicans need in order to knock some sense into them. Maybe then they will re-evaluate themselves and realized that they have abandoned the conservative values that got them elected in the first place.

The key to Republicans winning is to differentiate themselves from Democrats, not become more like them. This new global warming plank is just further proof that John McCain, and Republicans in general, have lost their way.

I don’t think they’ve lost their way. President McCain’s campaign is saying what they know will get them the votes. When they win in November, it will be back to business as usual. The republicans can’t get too serious with the global warming… whoops… climate change issue because they are deep in the pockets of Big Oil. President McCain will continue the policy of supply side economics (my beef is with the deficit spending like Bush has been doing). When SCOTUS openings are available, they’ll be true conservatives.

Let’s keep our fingers crossed that both candidates have an interesting (and an understanding) of climate change. I’d recommend they started with the forums at http://www.climatechangetriage.net to enhance their knowledge

Terrant, that is sort of what I meant by Republicans have lost their way. Instead of having core values and sticking to them they are changing their values based on what they think will get them votes. I would rather run a true conservative as a candidate and either win or lose with him than run a fake conservative and win. I wish I had your faith that conservatives will be nominated to the SCOTUS by McCain, but I don’t.

Chris, you don’t have an understanding of climate change other than the Democrat fed line that is designed to take your money and subjugate you.

I’m pretty certain what they say and what they are going to actually do are going to be two separate things.

“I wish I had your faith that conservatives will be nominated to the SCOTUS by McCain”

I wouldn’t call it faith though… it’s me being cynical more than anything else.

Truth is, if the republicans stick to their guns, they are going to get decimated in November because as the democrat primaries have shown people are getting tired of the crap that is going on in Washington.
